Balancestep was returning from an iron mine above [[Goblinhome]] when the [[Frost Wyvern Lord|Wyvern Lord]] and a horde of [[Eater Goats]] pursuing [[Rafaema Manusara Coloseuvia|Rafaema]] attacked. The Goblins returned to the mine and collapsed the entrance to flee through the emergency exit, but Balancestep was trapped outside. With no other options, he used his skateboard to flee to Goblinhome and avoid certain death. He made it with a broken leg. He has the appearance of an old man with facial lines, white locks, and albino white skin. He wears dark robes that seem to be made from shadows that slowly ripple over his form, sucking in all light, and a silver ring on his finger.<ref name="2.30" />

Once an honorable and noble individual, after being betrayed by those he counted as friends, Az'kerash became consumed with hatred for the living and has vowed to eradicate all life. While he had initially gone on a rage-filled rampage for the first century, he has become more patient in the present day, willing to secretly lie in wait and make long-term plans. However, he can still become wrathful, sometimes having a tantrum by shooting random spells of destruction. Cold and calculating, Az'kerash is a master manipulator, having tactics such as secretly replacing people with undead puppets.<ref>[[Chapter 6.50 I]]</ref>

Being the foremost [Necromancer] of his time, Az'kerash has an innate knowledge of anatomy of many different species, having achieved the class of [Archmage]. A brilliant scholar and intellectual, Az'kerash is analytical and methodical, often explaining things verbally as he examines something, as if he was explaining to a group of students.<ref name="7.14T" /> However, he is often arrogant, with an overconfidence in his own abilities.<ref name="2.48" /> Additionally, his [Parallel Thoughts] allows him to multi-task on a dozen projects simultaneously, though it also causes him to be neglectful and absentminded.

Aside from his hatred of life, Az'kerash also possesses a loathing of Wistram, even being angered by a mention of it.<ref>[[Chapter 6.59]]</ref> He also views the Demons as his enemies, having fought the Deathless back when he was an [Archmage].<ref>[[Chapter 7.36 C]]</ref><ref>[[Interlude – Paradigm Shift (Pt. 2)|Interlude - Paradigm Shift (Pt. 2)]]</ref> He also abhors the idea of [Slaves] or anyone in chains, even freeing [[Ferkr]] from mental hexes when he had no reason to.<ref>[[Chapter 8.42]]</ref> He regarded his former apprentice [[Reiss]] as a useful tool and a means to an end.

He considers the [[Chosen]] as his children, despite often being exasperated by their failures and antics. While he initially did not think much of [[Pisces Jealnet|Pisces]] (only taking him as an apprentice to prevent him from telling everyone he was alive), Az'kerash began to see something of himself in Pisces. Over time, he has developed something of a soft spot for Pisces, becoming exhilerated by his feats and accomplishments.
== Background ==
Perril Chandler was born to a family of [Chandlers] in the Terandrian kingdom of Silvaria. His powerful magical potential led him to become apprenticed to the [High Mage] of his city, mastering Tier 3 spells before the age of sixteen. After the death of his master, he discovered his talent for necromancy, while also becoming a duellist, eventually enlisting in Silvaria's army. Perril Chandler became friends with Lady Bea, who sponsored his education in Wistram.

A few years later, he became a mercenary and was hired by the Drakes to fight the Naga Incursions. During the war, he encountered [[Zelkyr Amerwing]], whom he had once met in Wistram, and struck up a genuine friendship. Together with undead and Golems, they became a genuine threat to the Lizardpeople.

After the war, Perril returned to Silvaria, when plague had struck the land. He summoned undead to assist with the harvest, thus gaining the gratitude of King Redoris. By the age of 30, Perril Chandler became a [Lord] of Silvaria. Eventually, with the nomination of Zelkyr, both became Archmages of Wistram.

During a war with the Dawn Concordat against [[Calanfer]], Perril Chandlerwas able to single-handedly fight off an army of four hundred thousand with the help of the [[Thronebearers of Calanfer|Thronebearers]], thus achieving the class of [Archmage], and becoming known as the Archmage of Death.

However, Perril Chandler's fall of grace began, brought about by the jealousy and envy of King Redoris. Seeking to diminish Perril Chandler, Redoris sent him to Rhir to fight the Demon Kingdom where, together with Zelkyr and several armies, they fought the [[Deathless]]. Though they managed to kill two of the Deathless and severely injure the rest, all the armies were broken, and the Archmages were driven back. This loss, along with other events such as rampaging undead and a Wailing Pit, cost Perril Chandler his reputation and began souring people towards necromancy. However, the inciting incident was the attempted assassination of Redoris with a bone needle. Despite protesting his innocence, Perril Chandler was executed, and the Necromancer would rise in his place. Hating all life, he would return ten years later to Silvaria and destroy it, killing Redoris, Bea, and thousands of citizens. He would continue on to plague Terandrian kingdoms for the next hundred years, leading armies of death against the living. He would destroy and despoil kingdoms, his undead armies beaten back only after much effort and then he would disappear before he could be slain, returning after years or sometimes decades, sometimes even faking his demise. Each time he returned he was stronger. At some point, he slew [[Kerash]], the beloved Chieftain of the [[Gnolls]] whom some had labelled the first ‘King of Gnolls’. As such, the Gnolls dubbed the Necromancer as Az’kerash (‘Slayer of Kerash’), a title he adopted.

During the Second Antinium War, Az'kerash led a massive army against the port-Kingdom of [[Desonis]], where he quickly overwhelmed the kingdom’s army but did not approach the capital. Rather, he seized a local port and then departed for [[Izril]].

In his invasion of Izril, the Necromancer clashed with the army of the [[Velan|Goblin King]] once before approaching Liscor. He besieged the city which was however quickly relieved by [[Zel Shivertail]]. After three months, the ruinous and increasingly desperate siege was lifted when an [[Antinium]] army under [[Klbkch]] came to Liscor's help. Zel Shivertail himself assailed the Necromancer's position and tore Az'kerash into two pieces. The undead army was swept up in the aftermath. (See: [[Necromancer's Siege of Liscor]]).

However, Az'kerash had once again only faked his death at Zel's hands. While Zel and the majority of Izril's population was convinced of Chandler's death, he settled down in a huge castle located in the [[Blood Fields]]. No one, aside from a handful of people, is aware of its existence, as he cast a powerful veil around his domain.

Eight years before the main story started, he or one of his many undead constructs posed as a [Merchant] and went to a Drake village, bringing a wagon laden with goods and asking for news. One of his servants, [[Venitra]] regularly briefed him on the situation as it unfolded, but the Necromancer decided not to interfere in the Drake's petty squabbles, just sweep up the fallen after the battle as future resources. Ryoka broke through that veil, followed by [[Periss Veldant|Periss]] who was slain, together with her Elite Soldiers, by the Undead. Ryoka could run straight towards Az'kerash's study where he - his main consciousness still occupied with the Undead creation spell - stopped her with a [Sticky Webbing] and a [Silent Sickle] spell. He reprimanded Venitra and dismissed her, then dealt with Ryoka himself, commending her for coming this far.

As he then learned she was a [Courier] sent to him from Teriarch, he relieved her of the package and revealed to Ryoka that the [[Dragons|Dragon]] had sent him a birth-year greeting and a considerably minor artifact: an original ring enchanted with warding and movement spells in the Silvarian duelling fashion.

Supposing that it would not do to kill one of Teriarch messengers, he lets her go afterwards.<ref name="2.30" /> A week later, he finished his new undead creation, and woke from his focussed trance, ready to give orders on collecting fresh material for his next creations, of which he states to need at least six, and fourteen would be ideal. Still, he started to work under time constraints. When Venitra reported to him the incident with Ryoka, Az'kerash became furious that the messenger had escaped alive to tell of his location: spilling the knowledge of his current abode could undo a decade of preparation and force him to act. So he tasked Venitra, together with [[Ijvani]], to track Ryoka down and kill her along with everybody else who knew of his castle - unless the Runner has kept confidential about it, in which case he expected Venitra to either call him but use her own judgement because he was similarly occupied with a creation again.

After she left, Az'kerash considered that he was ready for a war, if the need arose; but if not he would have yet more time to prepare. After the battle, Az'kerash reprimanded the Goblin Lord, telling him that he had alerted the Drakes of his greatest weapon and failed to use it to proper effect: While Reiss tried to separate Undead and Goblins and hold back the Goblins forces to spare their lives, Az'kerash expected him to ruthlessly sacrifice both in order to win more effectively. A few days later, he contacted the Goblin Lord to give him his orders. Upon hearing that he is using her as a spy for information, he told him with a voice filled with scorn that he already has all the information required, and that he does not need spies, only magic.

Then he remind him of his orders to go past Liscor and reclaim [[Mountain City Tribe|the Goblins]] in the [[Dwarfhalls Rest|mountain]], by taming their [[Tremborag|leader]], so that he could build his forces and wreak havoc among the Human lands. He also told him to become a Goblin King if he is able, and If not, then die cursing his weaknesses.

He then told him that he has his [[Venitra|trusted]] [[Ijvani|servants]] in Liscor, and that their tasks must not be compromised, as they have been occupied there for a long time, gathering information. Upon hearing this, the Goblin Lord started laugh and told him that his servants were not in Liscor for a long time, as he had met them a week ago, as they were lost and could not find Liscor.

Hearing this, Az’kerash said that he will reprimand his servants and thanked the Goblin Lord for telling him. Before vanishing, he told him to go north as he had told him, and burn the cities as he passes, while leave the strong ones undefended. == Synopsis ==
The chapter contains many small scenes and resolutions of previous plot points. One of those is [[Erin Solstice|Erin]] meeting some of the other adventurers at [[The Adventurer’s Haven]]. Beyond those we'd already seen in detail, the north also has [[Caleis Berkesson]], an adventurer whose class revolves around helping the nobility of [[Izril]] thus he is traveling south towards Izril's new lands to help them there. She also met [[The Champions of the Coast]], a married named-rank duo. While at the haven, she chatted with [[Larracel Delais|Larra]] about their progress towards Izril's new lands and ended up making a deal with [[Barnethei]] to send [[Ishkr]] over in a temporary worker swap for some of The Haven's staff.

While Erin is at the Adventurer's Haven, [[Mrsha]] is tricked into attending school much to her chagrin. She along with Visma, Ekirra, and other children from areas connected by Erin's door are a trial-run for a full-time classroom setting led by [[Shassa Weaverweb|Shassa]]. Mrsha is initially devastated since any previous attempts at tutoring her by Erin and [[Lyonette du Marquin|Lyonette]] were extremely boring, but she is won over when Shassa taught them using fun activities like foraging and ranged combat.

[[Colthei]] also came over to [[The Wandering Inn]] to discuss the state of [[Snatcher|Facestealer]]'s and [[Stalker]]'s hides. Both hides had been through rigorous cleaning done by Larra at Colthei's expense. He'd also paid out the others he'd brought in for the job using gold or the death magic swords they found. The hides were more of an issue though. They were graded at minimum at a top-tier artifact level if not relic grade and had enough material for multiple sets of armor, but hide that strong was almost impossible to cut by normal means. They'd need to find and transport the hides to a high-level tailor and Colth couldn't find someone at the right level. He brought the news to the [[Horns of Hammerad|Horns]] and [[Larr]] of [[Vuliel Drae]] provided a solution. His uncle made Kraken Armor and therefore should have the skills to handle the tough material. The Horns volunteered to bring it there since it would be closer to the new lands. As they came to this conclusion, the staff from The Adventurer's Haven arrived which included 8 people all over level 20 with three being over level 30. The staff and Lyonette were slightly combative from the start but Erin felt no pressure and was more so curious about them and their equipment.

At the Adventurer's Haven, Ishkr had started to work, but first we saw more of Barnethei. He and Larra had come to an agreement that Barnethei would build a new inn in the new lands under the umbrella of Larra. This would be done to gain more levels and more profits for both of them. Larra wanted these to let herself and her friends live in peace for their last years. Barnethei wanted this so he could get away from these close friends of Larra's and get his own group. Larra's friends were somewhat present. Some had already left, but [[Mihaela Godfrey|Mihaela]] and [[Valeterisa Imarris|Valeterisa]] were still at the inn. Valeterisa was there to peruse the library and work on a project while Mihaela busied herself in training potential couriers like [[Fals Lenestre|Fals]] as well as five other city runners. Both of these were distractions for Barnethei as he helped set up money making opportunities for the inn and calm down a brewing fight between a northern [Lord] and [[Relc Grasstongue|Relc]] and [[Menolit]] who had been invited to the inn.

The haven's staff at Erin's inn were trying to understand Erin and her inn, but didn't see anything nearly as impressive as the Adventurer's Haven. Erin knew this, and against all odds, Ishkr showed back up, fleeing from the attention he had been getting at the Haven. Since Ishkr had come back, this ended the employee exchange and Erin offered the staff to come into the [[Garden of Sanctuary]]. She also asked [[Ylawes Byres|Ylawes]] and his [[Silver Swords|team]] as well as [[Stargazer’s Promise]] if they could come with. She showed each of them she could find one for a statue: Ylawes saw [[Yderigrisel]], [[Falene Skystrall|Falene]] saw [[Sprigaena]], [[Lehra Ruinstrider|Lehra]] saw Chieftain [[Seru’nial]], [[Emper]] saw [[Merindue]] and other legends of [[Chandrar]], and [[Suxhel]] saw [[Vexcla|The Witch of Eyes]]. There was overlap between who saw what and the staff also saw some statues, but Erin knew some of her adventurers were leaving soon, so she wanted to show them these statues in the hopes that they might level from it and that they might be able to find stories to bring back to her about these figures.

While Erin was showing statues/terrorizing her friends, Barnethei found Ishkr back at the inn and finally had the chance to make his full pitch to join him. Barnethei offered a lot to Ishkr but Ishkr was very evasive. He was offered gold, levels, fame, a place for his [[Liska Silverfang|sister]], and much more until Ishkr finally said outright that he preferred the culture of the inn here as opposed to the grueling amounts of work that seemed common at the Haven. He said that he was made by Erin rather than Erin wasting his talents. Erin came back and the two revealed that Ishkr was a [Head Server of Tales and Fables] who likely wouldn't be able to stay very anonymous much longer after he revealed his amazing skills that managed to outdo Barnethei's.

Riverfarm inhabits an area of farming land fed by a river. There is a mountain near the village.

There are clay deposits around Riverfarm,<ref name=":6.41 E">[https://wanderinginn.com/2019/08/27/6-41-e/ Chapter 6.41 E]</ref> as well as ore or mineral desposits several miles south of the village.<ref name="6.47E">[https://wanderinginn.com/2019/09/24/6-47-e/ Chapter 6.47 E]</ref>

== Original Village ==
Riverfarm was a small village of around sixty souls, most of whom lived closer to each other. They inhabited an area of farming land fed by a river, hence the name Riverfarm. The people here grew crops and raised animals. They had two [Blacksmiths], and a dedicated person to go and trade for them at a town, that person having the most skill at buying and selling.

The people in the village lived together in large families. The children often went out to learn jobs in other towns as they grow, or manage the family business. It was rare to see a single new face in a month, let alone a group of people aside from [[Adventurer]]s or [[Runners]] now and then.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.wordpress.com/2017/08/01/3-00-e/ Chapter 3.00 E]</ref>

Riverfarm was rarely attacked by monsters, with the exception of [[Goblins]], though, which are the only real nuisance for the village. When they were being sighted, the village immediately collected money from each inhabitant to raise a bounty and, then, requested for help from adventurers to dispose of them. == Center of the Unseen Empire ==
After an avalanche buried the old village, [[Laken Godart]], a newly-arrived [[Earthworlders|Earther]], claimed the village as a part of his [[Unseen Empire]] in order to direct the rescue efforts and save the lives of the inhabitants. Afterwards, the newly minted [Emperor] launched a relief mission to buy supplies from [[Invrisil]]. For his efforts, the people of Riverfarm were extremely thankful and didn't question him becoming their [Ruler].

Laken decided to relocate the village to a new location, in order to efficiently till the farming lands of the area. He had also hired two adventurer groups in Invrisil, increasing their defense capabilities to fend off Goblins, [Raiders] and [Bandits]. When other villages of the area also were attacked by Goblins, their inhabitants sought shelter in Riverfarm. As such, Riverfarm soon becamea veritable town of over a thousand inhabitants.

When the armies of Riverfarm and the surrounding area was nearly defeated by the Goblin [Chieftain] [[Rags]], Laken was barely rescued by [[Tyrion Veltras]] and saw himself obliged to aid him at his siege of [[Liscor]]. In his absence, [Witches] sought shelter in Riverfarm, and a large fire was set by a [[Drakes|Drake]] [Infiltrator]. When Laken arrived back in the town, he officially made a deal with the [Witches]. He also brought Goblin prisoners in order to settle them south of Riverfarm.<ref name="6.47E" />

Even much later, Yesel hadn't outright apologized for that treatment like her husband had done.<ref name="6.34E" />
