== History ==
Chess was played thousand of years ago, notably by dragons too.{{cite}} Just like on Earth, there have been multiple variations of the original game over the years.{{ref|8.70 E}} There was a time when chess vanished from the world,{{cite}} but [[Niers Astoragon]] found it in a ruin and pretended he invented it, only about a year before [[Erin Solstice]] appeared in Innworld.{{ref|1.19R}}{{ref|Quiet Discussions}} Erin introduced [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algebraic_notation_(chess) chess notation] to Innworld{{ref|1.24}} and Olesm founded the first chess newsletter.{{ref|3.39}}

About a year later Erin held the first world-wide chess tournament via [[Quests|Quest]] and [[Scrying orbs|scrying orb]].{{ref|9.20}}

== Impact ==
Originally the [[System]] regarded playing chess as something that could level <Strategy> classes.{{cite}} This was surprising for many Innworlders and heavily abused{{cite}} until the System finally disabled it{{ref|Levels}}, only to enable it again with reduced experience rewards.{{ref|9.61 G}}

Playing chess can also grant [[classes]] as well as [[skills]], for example:
