Chapter 10.01 L is the 2nd chapter of Volume 10. The L stands for Lyonette du Marquin. == tl;dr == Lyonette deals with several problems and decides to become closer friends with Colfa. The [Princess] gets the idea to duplicate gold with The Box. == Synopsis == A day after the events of the last chapter, Calescent is trying to incorporate large quantities of garlic into his cooking – garlic duplicated with the [[Erin Solstice/Leveling History|[Box of Incontinuity]]]. The box produces one piece of Garlic every 4.2 seconds, and a stressed Lyonette is trying to figure out whether the duplicated garlic is actually real. To this end, she recruits Valeterisa and Demsleth. Meanwhile, Yelroan is checking in on Peggy and others, contemplating his role at The Wandering Inn. The conversation moves on to the topic of Tessa, who is still cooped up in her room, struggling with the aftereffects of having [Restore Addictions] used on her by Iert. The Faerie Flower draught does work on the physical withdrawal symptoms, but it does not stop her from wanting Selphid Dust again. Lyonette visits her after talking with Valeterisa but can’t get through to her. Normen, who is busy coordinating the evacuation of Rheirgest, asks Lyonette for help with finding a suitable place for them near Liscor, and she puts in a request with the council. The hole left by the reanimated Giant has exposed a potential dungeon, which might be useful for negotiations. And as if Lyonette didn’t have enough on her plate already, the children of the inn petition her once again for the Ironwood Wand so they can deliver it to the people that saved them during the winter solstice, and she declines again. Exhausted, she yearns for someone to confide in, and reaches out to Colfa. They talk and agree to meet regularly at the inn, but before Colfa can come over, Lyonette is summoned to a council forum. On the way there, she meets Palt, who is irrationally hostile, and Imani, who does not blame Lyonette for the attack on her. The council meeting is mainly focused on the rent situation in Liscor. The council had previously put a cap on it, but landowners and other wealthy citizens are demanding more. Selys, whose attitude to the people of The Wandering Inn has shifted drastically to the negative after her grandmother’s death, is present as well. As the topic of Rheirgest comes up, she callously argues against Lyonette, and reveals that the village is made up of [[Necromancers|[Necromancers]]]. The argument escalates and Lyonette calls Selys out on her bullshit, which leads to a full-on brawl at the forum. Colfa, who followed Lyonette to the meeting, carries her back to the inn, where they discover that Tessa has left to visit the Healer of Tenbault. While Colfa is keeping the kids off her back, Lyonette can finally rest a bit. After this, Valeterisa and Demsleth return to confirm that the duplicated garlic is in fact real, and their explanations finally give Yelroan inspiration for a project that makes use of his skills and Skills – mathematically modeling and quantifying magic. Lyonette is inspired as well, and takes the inn-family along with Rose and Colfa to the secret Earther rooms. After explaining to the kids that she’s not strictly opposed to their planned adventure and would like to come along with them, she reveals her plan: duplicating a suitable gold coin in order to deal with the many money-related issues the inn is facing at the moment. The kids visit Nerul to find out what gold coin would be best to duplicate, and in the end they decide on a coin that is high in gold content and whose engraving has worn off, making it untraceable. The succeed in duplicating it, and while the box produces one coin every thirty seconds at first, but verbal comments from Lyonette and Rose make it speed up until a stream of gold is practically flowing out of it. People are flabbergasted and overjoyed, but in the back of her mind, Lyonette is still waiting for the catch. == Characters == ( * = First Appearance) == Locations == * Izril ** The Wandering Inn ** Rheirgest ** Liscor ** Invrisil *** Salazsarian Embassy == Undead == * Rheirgest's skeletons (x50) == Items == * [Box of Incontinuity] == Statistics Revealed == === Calescent === * Skills: ** [Quick Boil] === Mentioned Skills === * Skills: ** [An Apple A Day] == Quotes == * (Yelroan to Peggy) “I just haven’t found a role fully suited to my abilities.
