As the other Human children crowded around Ryoka, Anabelle hang back as she felt she didn't deserve presents. She blamed herself for her brother's death since he had been mere feet away from her when the avalanche had struck Riverfarm.<ref name="3.42"> [https://wanderinginn.com/2017/12/26/3-42/ Chapter 3.42]</ref> Ryoka raised her spirits by promising Anabelle was not at fault and presented her with a gift. By chance, Anabelle opened up the present to reveal a male, blond-haired doll dressed like an adventurer. It was evident that Anabelle's trust in Laken had grown. She suggested that she may become a [Runner], a nod to Ryoka.
