[[Ylawes Byres|Ylawes]] thinks about what it must be like for all of the coastal folks as their lives were upended with the rising of the [[New Lands of Izril]], [[Falene Skystrall|Falene]] causes an incident after becoming frantic about the blue tuft floating around the area making [[Yorrned]] argue with the [[Silver Swords]] for the overreaction. [Patrol Leader] [[Dulc]] arrives to introduce the group to the former port city of [[Goisedall]], as they make their way to the city Ylawes listens in to Dulc speak about how hard it's been on the citizens of the city have to change their way of life after all the water disappeared now relying on the Fimie-Seeds, the blue tuft, to generate an industry. Ylawes has a team meeting for some of them to protect the caravans while the others enter the city to gather information and news, he wonders how their venture into the New Lands will go as they explore the untamed wilds.
This chapter focuses on the [[New Lands]]. The [[Silver Swords]], together with [[Vuliel Drae]], as well as [[Rasktooth]] and [[Infinitypear]] (a.k.a. [[Poke Duo]]), have taken a contract to protect a caravan travelling to the New Lands. Close to the border, they reach the [[Drakes|Drake]] city of [[Goisedall]] that used to rely on fishing but has now had to pivot to another industry – making cloth out of blue cotton-like plant tufts that are blowing over from the New Lands.


On the first day of their travels, they reach the line of raised earth that delineates the New Lands having to traverse the sandy ground and the ramp leading up to the fifteen-foot elevated seabed, after setting up their camp Ylawes learns that Yorrned plans to develop a settlement wherever he sets up his mining operation hoping that the [Merchant] thought for the long term. On the fourth day they decided to diverge from the beaten path but face the problem that their tires weren't made for overgrowth terrain in mind, the younger [[Adventurers]] that Ylawes picked up have some oddities to them as they are still inexperienced-[[Vuliel Drae]] lacking cohesion and [[Poke Duo]] being discriminated against-especially their [[Antinium]] team member.
The expedition leader is an [Ore Merchant] called [[Yorrned]], who has the goal of setting up a mining city once they find a suitable vein of ore. The group sees their first share of trouble as they find out that their wagon wheels are not made for off-road travel, but they push on.  They encounter monsters along the way, known species like [[Corusdeer]] and a [[Kelpies|Kelpie]] but also entirely new species, such as [[Lamprey Shufflers]], [[Featherballs]] and [[Landsharks]].


[[Dawil Ironbreaker|Dawil]] decides to make a forever-stew with everyone having to provide an ingredient to add so that they can have some stew with people from the other caravans joining in as well, most had at least something to add whether it was rations or something they just hunted, [[Infinitypear]] tosses in some roaches to the stew which receives angry shouts from everyone making the Antinium run away. Ylawes catches up to console the Antinium but is shocked to see the extreme reaction Infinitypear has to the small mistake, he is able to reassure Infinitypear that he won't be killed for the blunder and eats the soup holding back himself from vomiting.
Along the way, Ylawes is struggling to build team cohesion with this new group of adventurers. Vuliel Drae are inexperienced and lacking cohesion, and Poke Duo are discriminated against by the rest of the caravan, even though their presence is tolerated. [[Dawil Ironbreaker|Dawil]] tries to bring them together by making a forever-stew with them, which is promptly “ruined” as Infinitypear throws in some sugarcoated cockroaches. The [[Antinium]] runs away and fears death as his punishment, but Ylawes manages to console him and even brings himself to eat a bowl (with great effort).


On the ninth day of their trip, the group encounter [[Corusdeer]] nearby with Yorrned requesting Ylawes go out to hunt some venison, but he refuses noting that facing against a herd of them will bring trouble having to lecture others to not try and take pot shots at the deer. They encounter Lamprey Shufflers attack the Corusdeer who later tried to eat their beast of burdens at night, they continue to come across new wildlife as they journey onwards into the New Lands. As the days pass it becomes clear that something is wrong with Yorrned and the other [Merchants] asking multiple times for the Adventurers to hunt for food, [[Insill]] shares that the runes of preservations have deteriorated spoiling most of the food and after [[Falene Skystrall|Falene]] inspected them believes that they are in a mana-negative zone. [[Larr]] discards the spoiled food while Ylawes consults with Yorrned about the experts he brought along to hunt and forage around learning that the [Merchant] did not bring such people on their journey, Ylawes begins to feel the pressure of hunger with the next day becoming worse as Falene reports only three runes of preservation remain, the Consortium of Enterprise decide to scout for an area to settle.
As their journey continues, the merchants become more and more insistent about hunting Corusdeer, and after Ylawes and the others press the issue, they are startled to find out that their Runes of Preservation have been failing. [[Falene Skystrall|Falene]] explains that this is due to the New Lands being a mana-negative zone, meaning that she recovers her mana much slower and that simple runes will fail quickly if they’re not reinforced on the regular. They try to make the best of it and rush to find a place to settle down as quickly as possible, so they can start mining and farming.


[[Zedalien]] after he stopped working for the [[El Family]] and retired to [[Gaiil-Drome]] but felt the call of adventure making his way to the [[Half-Elven]] colony of [[Inserelad’reanum]] and became the leading voice of the [[Izril|Izrilian]] Half-Elves, he argues with [[Hareithion]] about the priority of what should be built getting so annoyed by the [Court Mage] that he tosses him out of a balcony. [[Jespeire]] strides up to Zedalien to confer with him the difficulties they're having building this new nation of Half-Elves that come from different cultural backgrounds, they then speak about the trouble they're having planting their trees but are interrupted by a pack of Landshark attacking a section of the wall being built. After taking care of the Landsharks, Zedalien, Jespeire and [[Ikeiret]] sit down to talk about their issues with the [Voice of Earth] bringing up that his [[Mages|[Mages]]] are slowly losing [[mana]] and would like it if a room for [Mages] to recover their mana would be built, Lady [[Ruveden]] joins the discussions to share that her group isn't able to have their trees germinate even with all of their efforts. Ikeiret tells them that the soil of the New Lands has been imbedded with too much salinity for non-native vegetation to grow, the [[Crossroads of Izril]] is brought up with Zedalien seeing with his [[skill]] that their neighbor [[Nombernaught]] is ahead of them on that front.
The second part of the chapter deals with [[Zedalien|Zedalien’s]] troubles, who has joined the half-elven colony project. Multiple groups of half-elves are working together, or trying to, so politics are hampering their efforts. Their mages are struggling with the mana-deficient environment as well, and worst of all, their imported magical trees aren’t growing as they should. They discover that this is due to a simple but unavoidable issue – the ground is simply too saline for most plants, and will hamper the farming efforts of all factions, not to mention certain smaller expeditions.
