Synopsis
Synopsis
It's very clear to Ylawes that Yorrned has made many mistakes in the planning of the expedition with the Silver [Knight] trying to have a conversation with the [Merchant] but gets snub at every time, the rest of the [Merchants] were a convivial bunch speaking much about their trade but during recent times they also hide away from the Adventurer. Cornering [Merchant] Tivete with her [Guard] Sal, Ylawes confronts her about their worsening situation and about turning back to head to Goisedall but she and the other [Merchants] refuse to do so unwilling to void their efforts, she shares their plan to have their [Farmers] grow radishes within a few days and that all of their magical items not of the Artifact-level will break soon meaning that they can't recoup their losses if they make the travel back. Tivete excusing herself with Sal and Ylawes conversing that some of the other people on their travels aren't happy with their current situation with the [Elite Guard] willing to follow the Silver Swords when it matters.
Just like the last one, this chapter is focused on Ylawes’ travels through the New Lands. As their mana and food situation grows worse, Ylawes urges the merchants to turn back around to Goisedall, but they refuse and push onwards, opting to halve the rations of non-important caravan members instead. Tensions rise, but Ylawes manages to defuse the situation for now.

Homle and the [Miners] were about to throw hands at the [Merchants] and [Guards] about being fed half rations until Ylawes came by to mediate the quarrel, after hearing what the [Farmers] need to do from Petia to start planting Ylawes agrees to have a longer conversation about it tomorrow. The next day, Ylawes speaks with Petia about how her farm went under with something causing her corn to die and being outmarketed by a Farmer up north selling sweet corn, getting request to send a [Message] for information about the New Lands' soil Ylawes goes to Falene about it but she says she can't do much as she has to recharge the preservation runes. They discuss who they should contact to save their time when a windstorm arrives tearing the roof from one of the caravans, focusing back on the [Message] spell they're able to speak with Nailren and Lady Ruveden for a short time before having to stop not learning much that will help with their situation.
The adventurers discover that their mana is being drawn away to multiple specific locations. But right as some of them are away to investigate, the caravan comes under attack by Creona Flashbirds, which steal food with the help of blinding flashes of light.

After going around finding that nobody had [Hunter] skills, Ylawes find the Poke Duo gathering things for Raeta and Jobbi as the [Merchants] plan to sell what they collect, he tells the two [Merchants] that the Poke Duo's time for menial tasks is limited leaving Ylawes wanting to read the contract he signed. A few days later the group travels through rough, hilly terrain with Homle sharing that their prospecting ventures aren't showing good results, Ylawes discuss with Falene and Dawil about what they should do in this worsening situation and the mana draining problem. Rasktooth points out that the mana from Falene's [Light] spell is leaking towards a certain direction making them chew over the what the thing draining the mana is, seeing that the mana-draining effects are coming from multiple directions makes them believe that there is a many sources to be found with Ylawes ordering his team to go on the search.
The ones investigating return with the news of a group of dead settlers. Just as they determine that these deaths weren’t caused by monsters, they notice that some of their Healing Potions have frozen – even their magic has been sucked dry, and only high-grade potions remain usable. The merchants are evasive about how many they have left, but among the rest of the caravan, there are only two, and Ylawes gives the one in his possession to Dawil in secret.

The next day, only Ylawes and the Poke Duo remain in defense of the caravans while the rest are out searching, Ylawes finds Rasktooth digging for some grub when Yorrned comes crying out about monsters, flashes of light burn their eyes with Ylawes recognizing the birds being Creona Flashbirds who are crowding around the people having lunch. The birds depart leaving many without food, so of the more desperate folks begin to try hunt the birds with Infinitypear knowing for a fact that they'll fail in their attempts as Bird themself has expressed their poor record against the magical birds.
The caravan discovers copper ore in the hills, and they settle down. As the adventurers go and try hunting for food, they find out that this choice of location has left them far from any of the animal herds they met on the way there. Even worse, their Bags of Holding fail while they’re out exploring, and not just theirs – the whole caravan is out of storage space, and thus the merchants demand some settlers sleep outside. That night, Ylawes discovers that his hidden temper might rival that of Yvlon’s.

The scouting groups return with the Adventurers not finding much and the [Prospector] only finding copper, Ylawes wants to take care of the source of the mana-drain but first Falene mentions that they found the remains of another expedition. Arriving at the broken caravan Larr's and Rasktooth's finding makes them think that it was abandoned rather than attacked, this makes Ylawes wonder about the situation these people had to go through touching his healing potion noticing that one of them was frozen. Consulting with his teammate they come to realizes that a portion of their potion supply have gone dead with them being magical in mana-negative place.
The next day, they ride out and locate a river filled with huge, easily catchable, fish. They get huge cheers when they return to camp a day later. The evening brings a swarm of magical insects that confuse their hunters, the Flashbirds, with beautiful patterns of light. The group is in awe, and as Ylawes talks with Poke Duo about the sky, Rasktooth notes a black spot in there that Yawes cannot see, as well as something that could be a square star or a weird cloud. Ylawes tells Falene to reach out to The Wandering Inn, and, as he sleeps that night, he sees a vision of the Silver Dragon.

On the 27th day of the expedition, the [Miners] are setting up the support structure for their mine and the [Farmers] setting up their field with everyone having to go on half-rations, the Adventurers try to hunt what they can while exploring around when their bags of holding explode. Returning back at the settlement site they see that [Merchants]' chests of holding have exploded as well with Falene drawing a preservation rune for their remaining perishable goods, many were injured using up the little healing potions there was with Ylawes and the other Adventurers hiding theirs for when they fight monsters. It began to rain that night which makes Ylawes pace about, he strides outside of the camp hoping to find some game kicking at the dirt harder and harder until he nearly stumbles to the ground before he returns back to the wagons.
The next group that goes fishing returns with a lot fewer fish, and to make things worse, the farming is going as well as one might expect in salty soil. Alarmed, Ylawes once again urges the merchants to turn back, this time in the company of the farming and mining groups. However, they use [Enforce Contract] on his team, just like on the other groups, so they are forced to stay.

The next day a group is sent out to go to the abandoned wagon to reclaim it for kindling while the Adventurers go towards the river were they find fish to capture, they bring a good amount of fish back to camp to see the group building houses. During the night more Flashbirds come but went after these strange green insects that light up the night sky instead of their food, the topic of the stars and constellations are brought up before Ylawes asks Falene to send a [Message] to The Wandering Inn for an update. Going to sleep, Ylawes dreams about Yderigrisel due to his legacy skill giving him a vision that he's getting closer finding the Dragon's grave.
Amidst growing starvation, and now even dehydration, the adventurers set out to hunt again. They encounter some giant snails, but let them pass, and manage to separate a Landshark from its pack a while later, which they kill quite easily. But as they arrive at the camp with the corpse, the rest of the shark pack returns, lured by the smell of blood. The colonists barely manage to fight them off, but lose the corpse in the process. Dawil is injured, and so Ylawes gets Insill to rummage through the merchants’ wagons, to look for Healing Potions and their contract. He is discovered but manages to return with a potion, and Ylawes talks himself out of the ensuing confrontation.

On the 30th day, Ylawes comes to find out that there's no more fish as it was all eaten last night making them have to go on another fishing trip, arriving at the river they see no fish in the waters and even with them heading both up and downstream they aren't able to catch much. Another day of catching so little they return to the main camp for Ylawes to find out that Yorrned had everyone have full rations for the two days their were out which creates tension between them. Ylawes finds [Farmer] Petia to ask her about the turnips she planted finding the results being extremely appalling, the two contemplate that the lands Kishkeria raised fit the Gnollish ways of herding more rather than one of farming. Seeing that their situation is reaching a tipping point Ylawes insists to Petia that they will have to pack up to make their way back to Goisedall, Petia agrees with him wholeheartedly but tells him that the [Merchants] have dug in their heels with creating a base there.
Sometime later, Ylawes notices that Poke Duo is still quite active while everyone else is sluggish due to starvation. By now, he is hungry enough to eat maggots, so he asks them to show him their food source. It turns out to be a colony of tubeworms near the river, which don’t taste great but are abundant enough to feed the whole caravan.

Ylawes gives his speech to group about their current dire situation and their plans to pack up and travel downstream of the river until Yorrned appears putting a stop to what Ylawes is doing, Ylawes tries to argue with the [Merchant] but is completely shut down with his contract being enforced by a skill holding them in place making the Silver Swords Captain cede to their demands. Two days later, starvation and its effects starts to kick in for everyone with there being two cases of food theft, the Adventurers are sent out to hunt for game with them finding the remains of the deserter which they believe was done by Landsharks.
Armed with that knowledge, Ylawes plots desertion – they trick the merchants into bringing out the contract, and Dawil destroys it with a well-aimed axe throw. The merchants try to apply force via their hired [Guards], but only Salamander is up for it. After Ylawes beats him, his team and two-thirds of the caravan make for the river. As they set up their new camp, a projection of Mrsha arrives. She explains that the [[World's Eye Theatre|[World’s Eye Theatre]]] couldn’t find them before, most likely due to them sitting right on top of the magic interference, and the chapter ends on a positive note.

The [Merchants] has distanced themselves from everyone else doing what they can to cope from the reality they put themselves in while Ylawes sets up bait for Landsharks with the other Adventurers waiting in place for their mark, ignoring a herd of giant snails they next see a herd of eight Landsharks and are able to make one of them injured and lag behind the rest which they are able to kill and bring back to camp. A group of eight Landsharks appear at camp attracted to the smell of the corpse they just brought causing havoc and panic, they manage to make the Landsharks leave but with a few dead, many injured and their recently gained food supply gone as well.

With Dawil injured and with them having no healing potions Ylawes asks Insill to go over to the [Merchants]' area to retrieve the contract he signed and a healing potion. As the [Rouge] was going through Lolsed's wagon he trips up an alarm causing a fuss with the [Merchants] about their stolen goods, after they eat what remains of Yorrned's grain the Adventurers go out on the hunt again. Ylawes notices that his two younger, nonconforming teammates of Poke Duo are rather energetic compared to everyone else with them bring their captain to were edible tubeworms live, he tells the two to harvest and cook as much as they can while he plans to inform the Consortium that he will leave seriously this time.
Locations
Ylawes speaks with the Consortium of Enterprise about the new source of food he has found and plans to travel following the river until they make their way to Goisedall, the [Merchants] began to enforce the contract but Ylawes counters their attempt with an Adventurer's Guild clause. Lolsed comes out waving the contract about telling them that there was no clause like that when Dawil throws his axe slicing through the contract, Tivete orders everyone under contract to stop the Adventurers with [Elite Guard] Sal readying to fight. After beating the [Gaurd] Ylawes orders the [Merchants] to bring out the rest of the contracts for anyone willing to leave with them, two-thirds of the group decide to follow Ylawes with the rest like all of the [Merchants] except for Anlam staying behind.

The departing group reaches the river with Ylawes speaks with his team about the worries he has about losing his [[Knights|[Knight]]] class after what just happened but they reassure their captain that he did the right thing, an image of Mrsha appears before them asking why it was so hard to find them with the [[World's Eye Theatre|[World's Eye Theatre]]]. Falene can see that being near the heart of the thing that's draining all of the mana blocked others from scrying them, before Mrsha can go on a tangent about the things going on at the inn Ylawes tells her to send a message to the Adventurer's Guild about their situation and help finding a nearby settlement. A spark of hope burgeons within Ylawes as he sees the little, white Gnoll bring those of the inn to them.
