* On their way to the [[New Lands of Izril]] on [[Wyverns|wyvernback]], [[Saliss Oliwing|Saliss]] is ordered by [[Edellein Blackwing|Edellein]] to take care of [[Manus|Manus']] forces that are obstructing their landing only for that order to be taken back immediately after [[Esor Ventail|Esor]] tells the [General] that a war .
* Three of the [[Walled Cities]] and their armies are at the rendezvous point of Fort Filmres with Saliss just in a plain old bad mood making himself a loner from everyone.
* [[Mrsha du Marquin|Mrsha]] appears before Saliss to give him a list of names to look out for forgetting the reason why they were important.
* The [[Drakes]] begin to sabotage one another with petty tricks and pranks with Saliss sent out to do one of his own: he was contaminating the water of Manus' showers until he'd gotten caught by [[Lyssander]].
* After interacting with Lyssander for a bit, it's clear to everyone but the [Captain] himself that he's a [[Turnscale]]. Saliss decides to avoid Lyssander not wanting to deal with him at the moment.
* Saliss encounters a group of [[Druids|[Druids]]] out on a scouting trip into the New Lands where they meet a few interesting creatures. One of them (called a 'Fatguin') shoots a wall of ice to impede the Walled Cities from moving forward.
* Tasked with destroying the ice wall, Saliss begins his efforts when [[Deyssdra]]—Named-Rank [Magician] of [[Salazsar]]—appears trying to take his thunder, while busy competing over it, [[Keldrass]] and his team the [[Flamewardens]] breath attack just melts it away.
* Saliss and Deyssdra, both Turnscales, have a chat trying to be professional with each other but due to their differences in philosophy on how they should do things for the cause makes Saliss storm away.
* Lyssander approaches Saliss asking him for a clear answer in the reason for him being ostracized willing to change, Saliss explains that his mannerisms paint the picture of him being a Turnscale and that he should him to clamp down on those idiosyncrasies.
* While everyone watches Deyssdra's performance, [[Femar]] orders his [Marines] to beat down Lyssander, Saliss and then the other [[Adventurers]] join in on the fight until Deyssdra appears to stop Saliss. The fighting stops when [[Navine Gemscale|Navine]] calls for both Named-Ranks to cease in their actions.
* The next day, Saliss meets up with Lyssander to have a more in-depth conversation into what it means to be labeled a Turnscale and learns that Lyssander is a prodigy with the sword.

== Synopsis ==
[[Saliss Oliwing|Saliss]] watches as [[Pallass|Pallass']] First Army is getting ready to take off in their journey to the [[New Lands of Izril]] led by [General] [[Edellein Blackwing|Edellein]] and how much of a poor choice it was for him to lead the [[Walled Cities|Walled City]] of Inventions, after Edellein finished talking with the [Generals] of the other armies Saliss strides up to [[Shirka]] telling her that he shared the old story about the two of them with someone. Saliss exhales that he'll need to teach Edellein to be ready for his post telling the [Generals] listening to him on how old [[Chaldion Oliwing|Chaldion]] would've been doing things to gain a foothold in the New Lands.

As they fly on wyvernback, Saliss asks [[Esor Ventail|Esor]] about recent news of the New Lands and why they wanted him on this operation, Esor explains that he and Edellein want Pallass' best [[Adventurers|Adventurer]] on the job which would be invaluable but their main objective is to get into the [[Crossroads of Izril]]. Saliss then reminds him that there was a reason for him to join this venture other than [[Seith]] thinking that he'll need to teach the [General] a lesson oh what it means to lead Pallass.

Edellein was having a great time out on campaign except when he sees Esor or Saliss who feel out of place from his army, he asks Esor if they have another Named-Rank with the [[Garuda]] explaining that they'll meet with [[Glasiaad]] at the rendezvous point. Edellein explains to one of his [Strategists] that Glasiaad is attached to Pallass by one of the cities under its aegis, Saliss strides up asking what his duties will be and querying the status of the other Walled Cities with Edellein irate confused that he would question treachery between [[Drakes]] of the Walled Cities. Saliss then asks if they brought any 'Archmage cards'—explaining that the term refers to trump cards of extreme proportions just in case everything goes wrong to Edellein—learning that the Assembly of Crafts did not approve any, Edellein grills Esor for a list of failsafes the [Alchemist] is talking about to see what he can procure from the Assembly.

Arriving at the rendezvous point, Saliss can see the detachments sent by the other Walled Cities to the New Lands, shots are fired from down below at the [[Wyverns]] above with someone from [[Manus]] on speaking stone demanding for identification or more will be fired upon them. Incandescent, Edellein soon commands Saliss to deal with the Manus' forces not knowing what he just ordered, Saliss jumps off the wyvern with Esor crying out in fear of what Edellein just did explaining that once Saliss lands everyone down below will be dead which will spark a war with Manus. Saliss was thinking while he was falling down how this would've been a good way to get rid of the incompetent [General] but he wasn't that resolved to go through with killing a few hundred soldiers to do it, after landing violently near Manus' soldiers he saunters his way out of their camp sending a bill to the First Army's [Quartermaster] of the potions he used and waves at the [General] who is slowly figuring it out.

Saliss and Edellein meet with General [[Rigrel]]—the person in charge of Fort Filmres—who begins to apologize for the misconduct with Edellein demanding for the officer on duty, Captain [[Lyssander]] arrives and apologizes for his error with Rigrel taking Edellein aside to have a toast for his advancement as the lead [General] of Pallass and tasks Lyssander with taking care of Pallass' army's needs. With nothing much for him to do Saliss wanders about looking for stimulus when Esor finds him telling him the plan of action, the whole contingent will  march daily towards the new lands. After Saliss makes a vulgar comment about their [General] Esor pleads with him to not act like that but Saliss makes it clear that he's not going to be soft with Edellein and then leaves, Saliss notices that he's becoming more quick to his anger unsure of the source within him.

While Saliss was being a loner and non-social, Glasiaad has a number of people surrounding him as he explains his manner of wielding [[magic]], the topic of shares in whatever [[artifacts]] or riches the Adventurers will have is brought up with Glasiaad saying that they should have a contract with their Walled City inviting one of the female Adventurers to go over their contract later. The group begin discussing the other Adventuring groups that are there as well such as the [[Wings of Pallass]] and [[Flamewardens]], Saliss' name is brought up with Glasiaad explaining that while that man is the person you want against a monster that he isn't liked much for his overbearing and territorial nature and he would never invite the man for anything social before going back to conversing about other Named-Ranks.

Saliss steps out of his tent seeing the well-organized camp before him and observes the clustering groups of Drake and [[Gnolls]] from each Walled City, after clearing free from his minder Saliss moves around camp trading jests with the other [Soldiers] thinking how much of a logistical nightmare going into the New Lands will be with its mana drain. A large Gnoll named [[Yorm]] appears behind Saliss being his new minder sent by Edellein, seeing that he wasn't going to be able to lose the Gnoll if he ran Saliss begins asking Yorm questions about his time at in the army. Saliss learns that Edellein has the eyes for talent-seeking with the late [[Comois]] and [[Thrissiam Blackwing|Thrissiam]] being example of those that were nurtured under him for a time, Saliss decides to run to the next part of camp to do some [[Alchemy]] with the Gnoll [Artifact Captain] following behind.

With his scales feeling itchy, Saliss stops as he runs up to Glasiaad's tent feeling the need to cause some trouble, seeing a few Adventurers leaving the tent he introduces himself while making a number of outrageous comments. Saliss specifically goes for [[Nekessa]] out of the bunch to see what sort of arrangement Glasiaad offered to her sharing that Glasiaad has contagious warts on his phallus and recommending [[Xif]] to her for treatment if she follows through before running off. Yorm questions Saliss what his comments were about and if Glasiaad had any untoward actions to the woman, but Saliss clears out the air that if he did do something of that nature that there would be a fight between the two of them and him socializing with the others is a way for him to get more of the pie of the treasure gathered.

While doing alchemy on the outskirts of the next camp, he receives a message from [[The Wandering Inn]] asking him to go to a private, non-antiscrying area. [[Mrsha du Marquin|Mrsha]]—using the [[World's Eye Theatre|[World's Eye Theatre]]]—appears before Saliss doing her checkup on him and after a bit of talking Mrsha gives Saliss a list of names forgetting the reason why it mattered to bring them up and then says to not read too hard into it as the future is uncertain. After she leaves the two go to the mess hall for food with Yorm calling over Lyssander and his group who just arrived at the place to join them, they discuss the Officer Trials that the Walled Cities, specifically Manus, organizes for their burgeoning Lieutenants to face against each other in staged battles. Lyssander brings up the time when Saliss engages with the officer trials with the [Alchemist] playing it off for jokes, back on duty Lyssander shortly departs leaving the rest there wondering why the former Lieutenant isn't liked by Manus' army.

One of the problem Pallass' army was facing at the moment was petty sabotage from the other armies as they've lost a wagonload of foodstuffs and a camp space just as [[Zeres|Zeres']] army has caught up to the march, not wanting to be left behind Edellein orders a contingent of soldiers to be sent ahead only to find that someone had cut the line to the horses letting them go free and wild. Getting informed that was caused by an order from Rigrel as a joke and that [[Oteslia|Oteslia's]] forces have decided to lead the charge into the new lands while impeding Manus' forces, Edellein then orders Saliss to impair their forces so that they become delayed for a time with Saliss asking for how intense is he allowed to go.

Saliss is having fun pondering on how he should hit the other Walled Cities with excessive flatulence without hitting Pallass' own, for Zeres he pretends to being a runner dropping off a barrel of contaminated ale supposedly from the [[Ieneessa|Serpentine Matriarch]] and for Manus he taints the water supply used for baths. While doing that it reminds him of a time being a proud grandson of Chaldion.

[[Duln]] approaches Chaldion about Saliss—an eight-year-old boy at the time—practicing for a sword [[skill]] for nearly two days straight, Chaldion states that he is no slave-driver and that Saliss is able to quit if he wants but that the boy understands what it means to matter to Pallass and the other Walled Cities. Two days later they all drink to the success of Saliss obtaining the sword skill with the boy gaining the right to go to Oteslia and the [[Meeting of the Tribes]] for whatever alchemy desires he has.

Saliss realizes that he'd been wasting time recollecting memories and moves on to the last water tent and as he was about to dump his load into the water a blade suddenly cuts where he was at, Lyssander calls out for who's there to come out with Saliss obliging. After an exchange Lyssander is trapped under some webs but is still able to inform his company from the smelly prank, before leaving the [Alchemist] questions how he was found out with Lyssander explaining that he was observing the tracks left in the steam trails. Saliss acknowledging that he made a rookie mistake and runs away hearing the shouts coming from the camp around him, he wonders why Mrsha mentioned Lyssander's name and the point to the pranks.

The next morning, Saliss discusses with Esor about how much Pallass is contributing to the New Lands Expedition with them sending eighty thousand troops with around half of them made to create waystations and garrisons along the way, they then talk about Rigrel and how he currently isn't a good leader for this event and that the morale for Pallass' forces is rather low at the moment which means that the horse cutting incident might not have been ordered by the Manus [General].

Saliss and Yorm lead the march with Lyssander's group right beside them, Lyssander's group of sword wielders begin to train in an alternating mix of aggression and defensive retreating which Saliss hasn't seen practiced in some time ever since that Drake saying became popular. Yorm and his Spellarm squad begins to train as well with Saliss watching the muscular men wrestle letting Onieva fantasize about Ishkr for a moment when Lyssander comes up complimenting Yorm and his group. Stupefied by what he just heard Saliss is uncertain whether what Lyssander said was a trick but seeing him interact with his company member does Saliss realize why he's disliked by Manus' lot.

Observing the Captain and how he acts makes it obvious to all but the man himself that he's a [[Turnscale]], Yorm and Saliss asks Lyssander about his relationship with Comois and how it soured. Hearing the root of the incident between Lyss and Comois, Saliss asks if he knows what a Turnscale is with Lyssander showing that he's completely ignorant of the true meaning of the word thinking that it's just another term for perverts. Not wanting to deal with it Saliss starts avoiding Lyssander as they march onwards.

Arriving near the anti-magic zone of the New Lands, they begin to store their magical items away with the [Generals] discussing how weakened their magical units will be from now on, while eating at the General's table a Gnoll Commander asks Saliss what really happened during the cracking of the [[Twin Moons|Green Moon]] in [[Liscor]] as he was there at the time. Saliss says that it was in fact [[The Goblin King]] but she and the many around them doubt the veracity of his words, seeing that he's done socializing for the day Saliss leaves the mess hall to head into the New Lands for some needed isolation.

Saliss takes in the new environment made by [[Archmage|[Archmage]]] [[Kishkeria]] as the Alchecorp unit of [Battle Alchemists] take samples of the area in a methodical, procedural approach to discover what valuable. While there's nothing wrong about Pallass doctrine, it and larges groups such as armies cause a lot of disruption and devastation to the area with the once field full of living clams as an example as it's now a field of clamshells. Everyone is beginning to feel the strain of the anti-magic zone with Saliss using a magical lantern to keep an area of magic around him as he surveys the area finding an interesting lizard, moving ahead he finds a band of Oteslia's [[Druids]] who are speaking with the local fauna. After an entertaining encounter with a 'Fatguin', [[Mivifa Selifscale|Mivifa]] comes screaming at Saliss for bothering her scouting team but [[Lagister]] tells her that Saliss has been a great aid to their efforts, Saliss hops on [[Feathi|Feathi's]] back as Mivifa leads them back to camp to talk with the two bantering reminding the [Alchemist] that he does have a few friends.

Arriving at camp they can see the wall of ice the 'Fatguin' left behind to delay the Drakes for a time to let the Heatband Lizards migrate away, landing down they meet Lyssander and Yorm waiting for the two Named-Ranks asking for autographs and where they'll be eating at. That's when three members of the Wings of Pallass drop down from the skies very bedraggled after being in the New Lands for two months, [[Bevussa Slenderscale|Bevussa]] and the other members share how they almost immediately lost most of their supplies once their [[Bags of Holding]] exploded and that they've just been doing delivery runs between settlements. Wandering to Mivifa's tent, Saliss mulls over his feelings on the Lyssander situation and how to interact with the Wings of Pallass, entering the tent the Wings of Pallass discuss their time in the New Lands, their bad luck, and that they plan on staying hoping to find fortune to recoup their losses. Bevussa asks Saliss about the rumors of a [[Goblin Kings|Goblin King]] emerging from The Wandering Inn with Saliss giving them a redacted version of events.

After the three leave, the two Named-Ranks pities the fate of the Adventurers within the New Lands with Mivifa recognizing that Saliss is in a bad mood, dropping Edellein's name from the conversation they discuss the reason they're at the New Lands with Mivifa having a falling out back home and Saliss feeling the pressure of keeping things together. They promise to find time to go out adventuring together with Saliss mentioning that while there are a few problematic people here that not everyone is a waste of time. As he leaves the tent his ponders about the names given to him by Mrsha and why those names specifically, after thinking on it he centers on that they have potential.

The interim committee of the four commanders want the ice wall gone tasking Saliss with the job and to make a spectacle out of it, getting lifted up to the top of the wall Saliss begins making holes in the ice with thermite and drops explosive vials in the holes. Recovering from the explosion Saliss starts to toss more vials at the wall when [[Deyssdra]] the Spectacular—Named-Rank [Magician] of [[Salazsar]]—appears trying to take command of the show, he and Saliss were obstructing each other in destroying the ice when a wall of flames blasted past them. It was the Flamewardens using their combined breath attack in conjunction with the [[Heartflame Breastplate]] that allowed them to take down the remaining wall of ice, Deyssdra and the commander of Salazsar's bunch [[Navine Gemscale|Navine]] introduces themselves to Edellein and the others with Saliss stomping off in anger after meeting the [Magician].

Mivifa finds Saliss sulking around and brings him along to meet with the Flamewardens and other Salazsarian Adventurers with Bevussa tagging along, meeting with [[Keldrass]] they discuss the Heartflame Breastplate and how its allowing his team to soon join the rank of a Named-Rank team. Everyone departs after a time leaving Saliss alone until Deyssdra steps out of a tent to speak with the [Alchemist], the two walk into a tent to argue further about the different philosophies they have to building and supporting the Turnscale cause. A long while ago when Saliss had the heart within him to fight one of the Walled City with everything he had he put out a call for help, friends came and died to set the Walled City ablaze for the lost cause, Deyssdra wasn't one of them and Saliss had never forgiven him for his cowardice. Saliss storms out of the tent finding himself staring at a piece of ice with Onieva staring right back at him.

Lyssander slowly approaches hoping to have a word with Saliss as he sees the Adventurer speaking to himself in an agitated state, noticing the naive kid Saliss goes back and forth in his mind on what he should do with the boy. Lyssander apologizes to Saliss asking what his mistake was hoping that he will tell him what exactly is he doing wrong to get ostracized by everyone, Saliss tries to drive away the young man by discrediting himself as someone to not ask advice for but Lyssander mentions that while looking for ways to advance his swordsmanship he found Saliss' record in Manus impressed with what he read. Getting to the point Lyssander brings up the Turnscale comment and that he's willing to fix whatever he's doing wrong, on autopilot Saliss just regurgitates what others have been telling Lyss in slightly more detail telling him to look into the matter by asking some questions while on break. Feeling relieved to have been given something Lyssander thanks Saliss and leaves, Saliss feels sick in having the kid clamp down on being himself but understands that there's no future for the dead.

The four commanders converse about how their Walled Cities are doing while they and the [Soldiers] watch one of Deyssdra's performances, seeing the strength the Gnoll [Magician] shifts the topic into their Named-Ranks and then shifts again into troublemakers once Saliss' name was dropped. Rigrel mentions his bad apple Lyssander for being a Turnscale which some of the commanders having a poor reaction to the news, Edellein brings up the story of Chaldion looking for an heir and having found one in Saliss who was extremely gifted but pushed too hard making the boy 'snap'. [[Femar]] decides then and there to sort out the problem by sending his [Marines] to where the Turnscale was sitting getting permission from Rigrel to do it, Edellein does not a thing as he feels like there's nothing to be done about it.

Saliss and the others begin to hear the sounds of fighting with many wondering who's getting beaten up, Bevussa can see that it's a fight between Manus and Zeres soldiers with the group figuring it out that it's Lyssander that's getting thrashed. They question why the higher ups are allowing him getting beaten up with Saliss blatantly stating that they believe Lyssander of being a Turnscale and are teaching him a lesson, Keldrass and the others hesitate on what they should do with Yorm pleading with Saliss to do something. Saliss just watches Deyssdra waiting to see if the Mason would do anything and knew after locking eyes with the [Magician] that the Gnoll wasn't going to do a thing in fear of compromising everything. Saliss gives two pieces of advice for Keldrass and his team as they enter the league of Named-Rank with the first being that while there is room for cowardice there is no room for hesitation, and secondly while counting the odds can get you far it's forgetting common sense that can get you farther as he suddenly hops over the tables.

Mivifa argues with Femar about what he doing when Navine catches sight of Saliss leaping past their table, Edellein orders Esor to stop Saliss but Esor has no manner of doing so. Lyssander was fending off against Zeres' [Nautical Captain] when Saliss appears grabbing the large Gnoll by the waist holding him back while also giving Lyss a bit of advice, Saliss tosses the [Nautical Captain] away towards Zeres' lot and knocks down another one of Zeres' Captains. Enraged the [Soldiers] of Zeres charge forwards at Saliss as he grabs a broken table leg and uses it as a psuedo-sword, he takes down numerous foes with his skill yet he's only a single person versus an army worth of people but then Bevussa and a number of other joined the fight. The fighting then turned into an all-out brawl as more take part in the melee.

High Command watches dumbstruck as Saliss take down all who come his way, Femar was about to charge in himself to stop Saliss but Mivifa places a blade at his throat lest he escalates things by spilling blood. Femar drops his Relic-class spear and Mivifa shoving the spear away does she sheathes her sword, they then hear the shouts of Deyssdra who says he'll put a stop to the fighting and starts to throw his metallic cards at Saliss. All the angry [Soldiers] back away not wanting to get in the way in a fight between two Named-Ranks, they throw several things at one another until Navine screams at the both of them to stop not wanting to have casualties. They agree to stop with everyone beginning to pick up the downed soldiers, Saliss walks up to Lyssander and his group seeing that while still beaten up are playing dead at the moment with the [Alchemist] healing most of their serious injuries.

The next day, Saliss braces for the consequences but learns that Wall Lady Navine has created a joint army for those that were supposed to be reprimanded, Esor tells him that he'll need to stay away from the camp and produce results before the Garuda flies away. Saliss enters a section of Manus' camp finding Mivifa and Deyssdra there with the [Magician] request a private chat with the [Alchemist], they talk about Navine's character and how those they're taking care of are doing with Saliss gloating that his been in a steady and supportive relationship to the envious Gnoll. Moving on Saliss meets with Lyssander and takes the injured Drake aside to have the talk with him, Saliss goes on to explain what it means to be a Turnscale in his position and the options he can take if he so desired. Trying to see the potential Mrsha hinted at Saliss asks Lyssander for his [[class]] and finds out that the Captain is only level 25 and a prodigy with the sword.

While Saliss was having his chat with Lyss, [[Ultarwe]] and a number of other leaders in Manus' army storm towards Rigrel's tent to have him step down in leadership after the [General] allowed someone beat one of their own, but just before Ultarwe could enter the tent Esor walks out to inform her that Rigrel has resigned and sent back home after gaining a 'sudden fever' with the Gnoll [Major] being put in charge temporarily until his replacement comes.

Later that day, Saliss was packing his adventuring things having gained a good mood compared to when first came into the New Lands, needing to pay a debt to a Garuda he requests Esor to assign Bevussa and her team to him. Saliss was lazying about during scouting duty when a thought crossed his mind, with all the creatures with that have powerful magic within the mana-sucking area that is the New Lands how powerful would they be outside of the zone. Before he could make a racket screaming his thoughts out Saliss takes out a vial and walks outside to a shinning light, not taking the vial Onieva meets with Ishkr asking how his week was.
