Selys goes around asking people what she should invest her money in. A new employee of the Wandering Inn, Welle, gets mugged in Liscor, and though Hawk witnessed the crime, he did nothing about it. Erin discovers Relc was transferred to Cellidel and already left a week ago. Hawk and Selys break up.
Selys goes to Pallass to find investment opportunities, and runs into Onieva. Onieva is looking for a new place to set up a Turnscale bar, and considering the Wandering Inn, but decides to try testing Selys and then Erin to see if they're homophobic. Rose suggests a variant of Romeo and Juliet where both leads are gay men, and nearly gets lynched before Erin rushes to defend her. Rose realizes that this world is extremely homophobic, and Onieva overhears the entire affair.
Selys and Erin talk more about possible ideas on what Selys could do with her money, and discover that Kevin knows how bicycles work. Kevin works with Palt, Hedault, and Pelt (funded by Selys) to design a bicycle, and as an aside, builds a skateboard. In Pallass, Kevin, Hedault, and a bunch of the city's teenagers skateboard down the giant level-to-level ramps. Leon and Troy secretly sell information to Grimalkin.
