Gailant used to be an ancient hero, called the Sligblade of Garkou's crossing after a signpost he liked to nap under, famous for felling a Dragon-King with an apple. He was present when the Eleves presented the Goblins and their vote to the Gods.

The Halfling has been around for tens of thousands of years, since the end of the God War, having volunteered for the task of guarding the knowledge of the Elves. He materializes to prevent those who speak of the dead gods and the events of the war. He doesn't exist unless he is needed, and so from his perspective, very little time has passed though he was aware of the changing ages.

Teriarch has encountered him twice. The first time, he was a hatchling and a group of Dragonlords tried to pass on their secrets to the next generation. The Halfling came down and killed the Dragonlord of Storms of the time. The second time was when Teriarch tried to pass on his knowledge to his daughter. Both times, Teriarch's memories of the Halfling were wiped.

The Halfling was summoned again soon after by Six different Teriarchs from the Palace of Fates, to confront the Goblin King. Gailant was so shocked that he spoke for the first time since he began his duty. As they talked and the Goblin King tried to convince him to ally with him as another enemy of the Gods and friend to the Elves from the earliest era of the world, Gailant became aware of the Goblin King's all-consumming hatred for the world and his total refusal to let it go for even just one life. And so they started to battle.
