Spirits that are brought in such a manner tend to come back changed, possibly insane or vengeful. It's possible for Revenants without souls to arise, but those Revenants are copies of the people they were, possessing the same mind and intellect, but with the hatred of the living that other undead possess. They just seek to kill everything and have no goal beyond that.
