== Background ==
Ryoka was either born in New York City<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2016/10/06/interlude-1-00-r/ Interlude 1.00 R]</ref> or in Oakland, California.<ref name="1.09R" />. Either way, she considers herself a girl from Ohio.<ref name="1.01 R" /><ref name="2.01">[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/03/15/2-02/ Chapter 2.01]</ref> She's half-Japanese, born to an Caucasian-American father and a Japanese mother. Due to little interest in the Japanese language, Ryoka can speak the language only a bit.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2-07/ Chapter 2.06]</ref> She comes from a rich family and "enjoyed" a diverse and good education; but on the same time was a problem child, antisocial and regularly aggressive towards persons of authority, including her Dad. She attended many schools, including boarding schools, but wouldn't fit in there: She was kicked out of two high schools. When she was abducted from Earth, she would have been a freshman in college<ref name="1.01 R" /><ref name="2.03">[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/03/22/2-04/ Chapter 2.03]</ref> and in Columbia University.<ref name=":Chapter 1.06 R">[https://wanderinginn.com/2016/11/30/1-06-r/ Chapter 1.06 R]</ref> There, she was accepted with a Track and Field scholarship, specializing in the 400-meter run. She had a 3.89 GPA average and refused Mensa membership.
