tl;dr[edit | edit source]

Rags sacks a city in retaliation to an eradicated Goblin tribe.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

  • Three Goblins look up in the night due to a premonition. The first is the Goblin Lord, who leads his army north past Liscor and the Wandering Inn. Next is Garen, who angrily stalks the halls of Tremborag's mountain as he feels the Goblin Lord approaching. Last is Rags who's restless and can't sleep. She blames it on the farting contest that Pyrite is winning nearby.
  • Pyrite ponders to himself as he sits by the morning fire eating soap. Rags awakens and arouses the rest of the Flooded Waters tribe and Pyrite continues to muse about how the Goblins of the tribe are now organised thanks to her. Rags' tribe were still camping by the lake and after finishing his breakfast as he continues to muse about various things. And suddenly a poem appears in his head.
  • After finishing the soap Pyrite begins to eat a rock. The the other liutenants of the tribe gather to talk with Rags: Noears, Poisonbite, Redscar, the former Chieftain of the Rockfall Tribe and Greybeard. Greybeard wasn't really a councillor to Rags but Rags puts up with him. Pyrite believes that Greybeard is very important and had solved a part of the mystery about him long ago but is content to wait to find out more about him.
  • Poisonbite wants to continue raiding caravans, whereas Redscar wants to move their settlement and head south. Greybeard mocks the suggestion pointing out that the Goblin Lord is that way, but Rags asks Noears if there's another Goblin tribe nearby. Noears points out the Undercrawler tribe on Rags' map and Rags decides to recruit them for their diggers. Rags has them split up to find the tribe, steal more food and find a better place to settle.
  • Pyrite, pokes a Goblin to get everyone to go vaguely in the direction Rags pointed: southeast. The tribe passes and scares away a City Runner leading Pyrite to overhear Rags telling Redscar not to fight. Rags rarely ordered them to kill anyone, notably humans, as rumor has it that she was fond of a human around Liscor.
  • Redscar tells Pyrite and Rags that they need to be stronger to fight Eater Goats. Rags mulls over the idea of training when they hear a Goblin cry from the front. They discover the remains of the Undercrawler tribe: Goblin corpses hung from a tree or piled below. Rags calls over Noears to read the words carved into the trees for them: “What happens to Goblins. What happens to filth.”
  • Rags begins to burn down the tree but Pyrite notices that one of the hanged Goblin children is still alive. They cut him down and Rags gives him one of their important healing potions on him. They try to ask the child what happened but the child doesn't survive. Pyrite leaves the child's body on the pyre that is the burning tree and joins the others for their war council.
  • Redscar and the Rockfall Chieftain wanted to destroy the nearby town and claim vengeance as does Pyrite who sits in silence. Tremborag's former Goblins didn't see the point in wasting lives that way, plus there was no proof that the town was related to the slaughter. Rags decides to attack.
  • They assault the few guards on the walls of the town with their rudimentary crossbows provoking armored riders to charge out of the gates. But the riders are met by the long pikes forcing them to retreat back into the town. Noears and the archers manage to take out a mage that is casting at them from above. Pyrite and the Hobs are able to break down the gate with a battering ram that Rags had ordered made. With the gate broken, Pyrite leads the charge into the town fighting the humans. An adventurer, probably Silver-rank, attacks Pyrite but the two are stalemated. Pyrite stays silent and stonefaced during the fight but then suddenly looks past the adventurer and says "What's that?". When the adventurer turns Pyrite kills him.
  • The Goblins push back the humans and find the rest of the civilians in the town square. Rags has the Goblins hold back and calls for rope. Rags orders the dead humans hanged from the houses. Then Rags has the Goblins loot the town before they all leave. Poisonbite and Redscar argued that they shouldn't leave witnesses but Rags still orders them not to touch the rest.
  • There is a somber mood in camp afterwards and Pyrite points to a small Goblin and asks if he can swim. After he nods Pyrite hurls him into the water. The other goblins look at him before he starts hurling more of them into the water. Rags later comes across Pyrite and twenty Hobs hurling the Goblins into the water, she points out how pointless it is and he points out that it's fun. As Rags turns to leave Pyrite hurls her into the lake. Later as the Goblins sleep Pyrite recites poetry and wonders if one day Rags will be a Goblin Lord or even a King.
