Chapter 9.66

The unnamed Halfling on the green moon is a failsafe by the Elves to prevent too much of the truth about the Dead Gods from being revealed, and test the people of Innworld if they are strong enough to know it.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

The Halfling is a "rosy-cheeked warrior."[1] Around four feet tall, his body glows and is semi-transparent. He has a faded scar on one cheek. He wears leather armor "festooned with pockets," and goes barefoot.[2]

Personality[edit | edit source]

The Halfling is unwilling or unable to speak. He enjoys fighting, and is confident to the point of showing off his physical capabilities. He takes his duties seriously, making sure to follow his mandate to the letter. He waits in anticipation for the time when he meets his match.

Background[edit | edit source]

The Halfling has been around for thousands of years, since the end of the God War, having volunteered for the task of guarding the knowledge of the Elves. He materializes to prevent those who speak of the dead gods and the events of the war. He doesn't exist unless he is needed.

Teriarch has encountered him twice. The first time, he was a hatchling and a group of Dragonlords tried to pass on their secrets to the next generation. The Halfling came down and killed the Dragonlord of Storms of the time. The second time was when Teriarch tried to pass on his knowledge to his daughter. Both time, Teriarch's memories of the Halfling were wiped.

Occasionally he's had visitors on the moon, who were the only people to learn his name, which included Lizardfolk, "arrogant [Mages]", and a Void Dragon.[2]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

Volume 9[edit | edit source]

After Eldavin tried to broadcast the names of Kasigna and Cauwine on the Wistram News Network but was blocked by Roshal, the Halfling came down, punching through Wistram's magical defenses, and tried to kill him. Eldavin escaped and the Halfling vanished, returning to the moon.[1]

Volume 10[edit | edit source]

Teriarch was egged into revealing the truth about the God War instead of drip-feeding trivia as he usually does. This summoned the Halfling, who attacked those present. He beat down Teriarch, Taletevirion, Rafaema, Cire, Lulv, Mivifa, Ressa and Reynold, and ignored Magnolia Reinhart's attempts at diplomacy or to weaponize him against Bethal. Teriarch stopped him by threatening to destroy the green moon with his combined hoard of relics if he didn't leave.[2]

The force of his landing created tremors which caved in some of the tunnels in the Troll Kingdom and made the Mortemdefieir Titan rush to reform in the face of this unknown threat, and placing Rags in a perilous situation in her planned ambush to destroy two of the Titan's limbs.[3]

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

The Halfling is an incredibly skilled combatant. Despite seemingly not having any levels, he singlehandedly overwhelmed three Dragons, a Unicorn, and two Named Adventurers in combat.

He can also speak words that turn the target to dust.[2]

Equipment[edit | edit source]

  • Shortsword: A glowing sword meant to kill gods, able to parry spells and slice through Teriarch's brass scales.
  • Sling Staff: Launches projectiles with tremendous power, stronger than a Giant's blow and able to hurt even Teriarch, which can also change direction in midair and be recalled back to the sling. They are also antimagic. The sling is also able to scoop up and launch elemental attacks.
  • Leather Armor: Of unknown make and full of pockets. It's linked to another dimension, so anything piercing it will not hit the wearer underneath.
  • Shield: Able to partially protect from Teriarch's dragonbreath, and deflect Magnolia's Balefire Ring beam.
  • Bird: A bird that grows with the distance it travels. It can quickly become bigger than a dragon, and will leave a smoking red creater where it hits.
  • "Vortex": A thrown item similar to a Vortex Arrow.
