First Appearance

Chapter 4.44 M

Nalthaliarstrelous, or simply Nalthal, is Magnolia's [Gardener] and one of her more dangerous servants.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Nalthal is a dour-looking old man in dirty robes.[1]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Unlike every other servant in Magnolia’s employ, he doesn't act in a professional manner, does not bow to her, and even glares at Magnolia when he is irritated by her.[1]

Nalthal resents taking orders even from Magnolia, personal contact, questions about personal life, and people stepping on grass.[2]

Furthermore, he seemingly dislikes talking, having so far not spoken a single word. Although he has the tendency to grunt.[1]

Background[edit | edit source]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

His prowess are so high that even Zel and Ressa are reluctant to stay in his near vicinity.[1] Among the [Druids] he is the best at terraforming, combat and shapeshifting.[3]

  • [Gardener] Lv. ?[1]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Ressa and Nalthal don't get along.[4]
  • According to Bekia, his overgrown hedge maze could probably kill a small army if they wandered in.[4]
  • In case people attacked Magnolia in her estate, she gives the corpses to Nalthaliarstrelous for...composting.[4]

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • To Mrsha:
    • “You? Well met, little landfriend. You’re untaught, aren’t you? Strange. Is this your place?”
    • “My apologies for intruding. ‘Tis good land. Wondrous, terrible flowers. I am on my duties. Until then.”
  • (To Magnolia) “Hmf. All stone. Disgusting. And there’s something beneath. Damn Drakes, messing up the land and burying damned dungeons all over the place…”
  • (To Erin) “No one indicated that to me. Why wasn’t there a sign? I would have obeyed it.”
  • (On a sign) ‘If you kick your dog, you will never walk again.’
  • (To Lyonette) “Law? Laws say many things. ‘Do not hurt that man’. Make him pay money for torturing his wards. He will not learn. When I break his legs for spurring a horse when it screamed and bled—he will remember.”
  • (To Mrsha) “Here is mine, and what I believe: to hurt those who cannot defend themselves is a poor thing. To waste is a poor thing.”
  • (To Oteslia’s side) “I am a [Druid]. Be silent or I will hit you.”
  • (To Lyonette) “I do not need proof. You called for [Druids]. The evidence is plain as the smile on your face. Which is my evidence. Explain yourself, ‘Miss Solstice’.”
  • (To everyone) “This entire affair is petty and childish. I agree with that. And I say those flowers came from one garden alone. Druid Shassa. Do you deny that?”
  • (To Shaerrha) “You called for [Druids]! We don’t wait on justice!”
  • (To Lyonette) “So that’s your game. If you weren’t the little landfriend’s mother, I would hit you. As it is—[Stinking Cloud].”
  • To Oteslia’s side:
    • “The flowers are the [Alchemist]’s. They were stolen, and it is a crime to steal that which was so carefully raised and taken care of. Shut up, all of you!
    • “They came from a place of old roots and power! You know they were stolen, shared about! Well, this is what comes of lies and deceit. Buy the damn things! They must be bought—so be it! Beg or buy for them. This judgment is over!”
  • (To Saliss & Mirn) “If it’s not, clean it up. Any animals or plants get sick, I’ll come back and break both your tails.”
  • (To Lyonette) “Go. Sometimes you must do what is necessary yourself. Seize it, [Princess] of Calanfer. You cannot ask others to fight your wars forever.”
  • (To Ushar) “She’s more like Reinhart every day.”
