Wailing Pit

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

A Wailing Pit is a greater undead made of a great amount of corpses.

Background edit edit source

Wailing Pits are made of many corpses fused together into a writhing mass, and their size and strength is proportional to how many bodies they are made up of. They are known to emerge in mass graves.[1] Even [Necromancers] of legend wouldn’t create any of a truly gigantic size, as they are intelligent and have their own wills.

Powers and Abilities edit edit source

They’re able to speak with the voices of the corpses they are made up of. They use their speech to lure victims to them, and can drive people to insanity with curses and profane insults. If they've eaten [Mage] corpses, they can cast magic. If a Wailing Pit gets large enough, it can scream a deafening wail of pure death magic, able to outright kill people hit directly. Even those not directly hit by the wail will have burst ears and possibly burst eyes too, and the death magic will stop their hearts for a moment, as well as empower other undead.

Wailing Pits can repair damage to themselves by absorbing more dead bodies. They are able to command other undead.[2]

Trivia edit edit source

  • Wailing Pits are among of the undead the Blighted Kingdom's prospective [Necromancers] have to study for a night.[2]
  • One of the incidents that destroyed Perril Chandler's reputation was the emergence of a Wailing Pit created by a [Necromancer] cabal.[3]
