Chapter 1.03 is the 4th chapter of Volume 1. == tl;dr == Erin is in survival mode. She cuts herself in a failed attempt to debone a fish she caught. She mentally replays famous chess games to distract herself. == Synopsis == The next morning, Erin notices her hunger and sets out to find more blue fruits. After eating her fill and harvesting a few more, she returns to the inn and cleans the dusty floor. Realizing she was dehydrated, Erin heads to the stream she found the day before while running from Goblins. She drinks from the stream but overindulges, causing discomfort. She also bathed in the cold water, and a large fish startles her. Erin dodged the fish's attack, leaving it outside of the waters. She carried it back to the inn, intending to eat it for lunch. Despite her lack of knowledge of how to skin and debone the fish, Erin decides to try it, hoping to create a meal out of the fish. She tries to rely on her [Basic Cooking] skill, but it doesn't provide any assistance. Erin quickly realized how complicated and messy the process was. While struggling with the fish, she accidentally cut her left hand with the knife. The injury was not bone deep, but the bleeding was persistent. Erin resorts to using a curtain from upstairs to use as a bandage. The pain from the wound intensifies, and she finds it increasingly difficult to focus on anything else. The agony is unbearable, and she cannot sleep, eat, or tend to her other injuries. Desperate to distract herself from the pain, Erin turns to her love of chess. She starts to whisper the moves of famous chess games, playing them out in her mind as she sits in the dark inn. The chess games provided some distraction, but the pain in her hand never stopped throughout the night. == Characters == ( * = First Appearance) * Erin Solstice == Locations == * an abandoned inn * the plains ** grove of Amentus trees ** stream near the inn == Creatures == * a flat squat fish with huge teeth and four eyes == Items == * blue fruits * Goblin knife * knives from the kitchen * cast iron frying pan * makeshift bandage (from curtains) == Quotes == * (Erin to herself about the Goblins) “They’re not that dangerous. They’re like kids.” * (Erin to herself) “So, [Basic Cleaning] was really a skill after all? …Huzzah. What a great skill! I mean, I might have to fight off giant crabs and Goblins, but at least I’ll be able to clean the floor while they eat me! I wouldn’t want to leave a mess.” * (Erin to herself) “Monsters, monsters all around. And not one of them looks edible. But at least there’s blue fruit that smells like cleaning fluid. And at least there’s a dusty old inn. And at least I have four levels in innkeeping. Huzzah for me.”
