Laken obtains his sense powers and gifts court titles to Frost Faeries, who in turn protect him from an avalanche that buries Riverfarm.

== Synopsis ==
Waking up to an animal's persistent cries, Laken finds that he can now sense his surroundings in an area around Durene's cottage, which he had claimed as his lands. Exploring outside, Laken rescues a big greenish bird chick. Durene and Laken examine and decide to keep the little eaglet, naming it Frostwing. That night, Laken levels up as an [Emperor] and [Beast Tamer]. In the following days, Laken uses his [Emperor] sense to locate small game for Durene to hunt and feed to Frostwing. The two also get intimate and begin a relationship.

A few days later, while Durene is out working, Prost arrives and again tries to convince Laken to move away from Durene, implying that he's too good for her. Laken retorts and demands that he apologize to Durene for previously insulting her. Prost doesn't quite accede, but Laken's words appear to get through to him. Laken takes the opportunity to buy food for him and Durene (most importantly meat for Frostwing).

Some days later, the Frost Faeries pay him a visit, having been curious about a new [Emperor], an oddity on [[Izril]]. The Faeries let slip of an impending danger, and Laken, desperate for information, gives them noble titles in his Empire in exchange for their aid. Despite that, the Faeries don't reveal the nature of the coming danger to Laken, only promising that his Empire will be exempt from the danger, before flying away.

Three days later, an avalanche buries Riverfarm.
