[[File:Corusdeer by auspiciousoctopi.jpg|thumb|350x350px|Corusdeers by [[Fanworks/Auspiciousoctopi|auspiciousoctopi]]|alt=]] '''Corusdeers''' are a type of magical deers that can ignite their horns until they hot enough to vaporise bone. They are a formidable target for any enterprising hunter seeking their valuable antlers, which are a key ingredient in heat and fire alchemy, but can also heat a home for a winter through before running out of mana. ==Appearance == It looks like a normal reindeer, except for being twice as big as one. Furthermore, it has two glowing antlers on its head, oaken brown at the coronet and cherry red at the tips. == Background == [[File:M22Horns corusdeer by Brack.jpg|thumb|Corusdeer fighting a snowman by [[Fanworks/Brack|Brack]]]] They thrive in snowy climates.<ref name="gloss" /> === Threat assessment === [[Snow Golems]] are considered their natural enemies, and are very vulnerable to their attacks.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/03/27/4-22-e/ Chapter 4.22 E]</ref> In winter, they defend themselves not only by attacking their enemies with the horns, but also by creating thick fog from snow.<ref name="2.03 G">[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/06/14/2-03-g/ Chapter 2.03 G]</ref> They are considered an even more dangerous foe in the summer months, when their horns can start huge wildfires during dry seasons. Alone, a Corusdeer is a Silver-rank threat.<ref name=":0">{{VERef|10.02 Y}}</ref> Single Corusdeer that go onto a rampage can be brought down, even by [Farmers] using pitchforks.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2019/07/27/6-34-e/ Chapter 6.34 E]</ref> In herds, they pose a much greater danger and are rated as Gold-rank threats,<ref name="gloss" /><ref name=":0" /> and most lower level <nowiki>[</nowiki>[[Hunters]]] don't dare to go after them. Farmers and herders don't like them near their areas. For that reason, driving away<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/10/14/3-23-l/ Chapter 3.23 L]</ref> or killing Corusdeer is a common task for adventurers<ref name="5.07">[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/07/28/5-07/ Chapter 5.07]</ref>, although that depends on the size of the herd in question. Even Gold-rank adventurers donβt antagonize large herds; and Corusdeer may form stampedes.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/05/17/4-36-o/ Chapter 4.36 O]</ref> == Powers/Abilites == Corusdeer are able to ignite their horns until they are hot enough to vaporize bone.<ref name="gloss" /> Their hooves are similarly charged. Once a Corusdeer runs out of [[Mana]] during a fight, this special ability fades away and the deer remains a non-magical animal.<ref name="2.24T">[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/05/10/2-01-t/ Chapter 2.24 T]</ref> Corusdeer horns are highly reactive even after being severed or ground into a powder, igniting from a slight amount of friction.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2023/07/16/9-54-c/ Chapter 9.54 C]</ref> Other creatures have similar abilities, including the Ignition Salamander,<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/12/19/3-39/ Chapter 3.39]</ref> and Fire Beetles.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/07/21/5-04/ Chapter 5.04]</ref> === Strategies against Corusdeer === * [[Toren]] managed to kill the first Corusdeer he encountered, though only because he had help from a Snow Golem and could reassemble himself after many of his bones had been disentegrated from heat.<ref name="2.24T" /><ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/09/27/3-17-t/ Chapter 3.17 T]</ref> He later slaughtered a small herd of at least ten deer.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/07/08/2-35/ Chapter 2.42]</ref> * [[Goblins|Goblin tribes]] are aware of the threat posed by the deer and usually don't risk to hunt them, but occasionally do<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/05/21/2-02-g/ Chapter 2.27 G]</ref>.
