'''Corusdeers''' are a type of magical deers that can ignite their horns until they hot enough to vaporise bone. They are a formidable target for any enterprising hunter seeking their valuable antlers, which are a key ingredient in heat and fire alchemy, but can also heat a home for a winter through before running out of mana.
It looks like a normal reindeer, except for being twice as big as one. Furthermore, it has two glowing antlers on its head, oaken brown at the coronet and cherry red at the tips.

They thrive in snowy climates.<ref name="gloss" />
[[Snow Golems]] are considered their natural enemies, and are very vulnerable to their attacks.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/03/27/4-22-e/ Chapter 4.22 E]</ref>
In winter, they defend themselves not only by attacking their enemies with the horns, but also by creating thick fog from snow.<ref name="2.03 G">[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/06/14/2-03-g/ Chapter 2.03 G]</ref> They are considered an even more dangerous foe in the summer months, when their horns can start huge wildfires during dry seasons.
Alone, a Corusdeer is a Silver-rank threat.<ref name=":0">{{VERef|10.02 Y}}</ref> Single Corusdeer that go onto a rampage can be brought down, even by [Farmers] using pitchforks.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2019/07/27/6-34-e/ Chapter 6.34 E]</ref>
In herds, they pose a much greater danger and are rated as Gold-rank threats,<ref name="gloss" /><ref name=":0" /> and most lower level <nowiki>[</nowiki>[[Hunters]]] don't dare to go after them. Farmers and herders don't like them near their areas. For that reason, driving away<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/10/14/3-23-l/ Chapter 3.23 L]</ref> or killing Corusdeer is a common task for adventurers<ref name="5.07">[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/07/28/5-07/ Chapter 5.07]</ref>, although that depends on the size of the herd in question. Even Gold-rank adventurers don’t antagonize large herds; and Corusdeer may form stampedes.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/05/17/4-36-o/ Chapter 4.36 O]</ref>
Corusdeer are able to ignite their horns until they are hot enough to vaporize bone.<ref name="gloss" /> Their hooves are similarly charged. Once a Corusdeer runs out of [[Mana]] during a fight, this special ability fades away and the deer remains a non-magical animal.<ref name="2.24T">[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/05/10/2-01-t/ Chapter 2.24 T]</ref> Corusdeer horns are highly reactive even after being severed or ground into a powder, igniting from a slight amount of friction.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2023/07/16/9-54-c/ Chapter 9.54 C]</ref>
Other creatures have similar abilities, including the Ignition Salamander,<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/12/19/3-39/ Chapter 3.39]</ref> and Fire Beetles.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/07/21/5-04/ Chapter 5.04]</ref>
Strategies against Corusdeer
* [[Toren]] managed to kill the first Corusdeer he encountered, though only because he had help from a Snow Golem and could reassemble himself after many of his bones had been disentegrated from heat.<ref name="2.24T" /><ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/09/27/3-17-t/ Chapter 3.17 T]</ref> He later slaughtered a small herd of at least ten deer.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/07/08/2-35/ Chapter 2.42]</ref>
* [[Goblins|Goblin tribes]] are aware of the threat posed by the deer and usually don't risk to hunt them, but occasionally do<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/05/21/2-02-g/ Chapter 2.27 G]</ref>. However, [[Garen Redfang]] was high level enough to just stride into a herd and kill some.<ref name="2.03 G" />
* Corusdeer are easy prey for [[Rock Crabs]] who can hide under the snow and catch them unaware, and who are also well protected with their large rock shells.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/06/12/4-45/ Chapter 4.45]</ref><ref name="3.22L">[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/10/10/3-22-l/ Chapter 3.22 L]</ref> [[Shield Spiders]] also easily trap Corusdeer in pits.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2019/07/13/6-30/ Chapter 6.30]</ref>
* Large enough numbers of enemies scare away Corusdeer. Also, they usually don't attack buildings or walls.<ref name="3.22L" />
* The [[Horns of Hammerad]] worked against Corusdeer with [Invisibility], [Fireballs] and Bear Bone Golems.<ref name="5.07" />
* [[Madain]] also serves Corusdeer meat in his inn in [[Reizmelt]].<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2019/03/19/6-00/ Chapter 6.00]</ref>
Corusdeer are hunted for both their meat,<ref name="2.03 G" /> their horns<ref name="gloss" /> and their skins.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2021/09/15/interlude-songs-and-stories/ Interlude – Songs and Stories]</ref>
Corusdeer '''steak''' is considered a local speciality in [[Liscor]], served not only in [[Peslas]] inn,<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/02/03/4-09/ Chapter 4.09]</ref> but also at [[The Wandering Inn]]<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/02/20/4-15-l/ Chapter 4.15 L]</ref>. Recent Liscorian recipes include Corusdeer slices on pizza.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2019/07/20/6-32/ Chapter 6.32]</ref>
Corusdeer hides are one of the most common commodities provided by [Hunters] in Liscor, and are a source of cheap clothing if one can't afford better.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2022/07/30/interlude-mundanity-and-memorials/ Interlude - Mundanities and Memorials]</ref>
Liscor's adventurer guild pays four silver for each '''antler''', since their horns have valuable alchemical properties.<ref name="gloss">[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/10/19/glossary/ The Wandering Inn Glossary]</ref> Octavia even stated that "''one horn can go for as much as twelve silver pieces or double that if there’s a shortage".''
* [[Octavia]] used pulverized Corusdeer horns instead of phosphorus to create the flammable coating of her matches.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/12/25/3-41/ Chapter 3.41]</ref>
* [[Erin Solstice|Erin]] used pulverized Corusdeer horn for her Corusdeer soup, which heats up the imbiber for hours.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2017/07/25/2-40/ Chapter 2.47], [https://wanderinginn.com/2018/04/10/4-27-h/ Chapter 4.27 H], [https://wanderinginn.com/2018/11/10/5-36/ Chapter 5.36]</ref>. She later improved the recipe into a Corusdeer Scramble.<ref name="4.19">[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/03/17/4-19/ Chapter 4.19]</ref>
Finally, Corusdeer are of great use for [Summoners].
* [[Odveig]] was able to summon animals using a whole herd using a whole fur.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/03/27/4-22-e/ Chapter 4.22 E]</ref>
* [[Revi]] killed a Corusdeer near Liscor<ref name="2.24T" /> and captured its spirit and a piece of its horn, which enables her to call onto that spirit since.<ref name="4.19" /><ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/04/21/4-30/ Chapter 4.30], [https://wanderinginn.com/2018/07/24/5-05/ Chapter 5.05], [https://wanderinginn.com/2018/07/31/5-08/ Chapter 5.08], [https://wanderinginn.com/2018/10/13/5-28/ Chapter 5.28], [https://wanderinginn.com/2018/11/24/5-40/ Chapter 5.40]</ref>
* No other species of magical deer has been mentioned in the story so far... even normal deer or reindeer haven't yet appeared.
