== Overview == Desonis is a coastal kingdom covered in marshes, mainly populated by Humans and LIzardfolk. As such, they specialize in fishing, while are also well known for their pottery made from the clay deposits in the marshes.<ref name=":0">[[Chapter 8.16]]</ref><ref>[[Interlude β The Innkeeperβs Knight|Interlude - The Innkeeper's Knight]]</ref> Although it is smaller compared to most Terandrian kingdoms, it is moderately prosperous and known for the Earl of the Rains, its sleepy ruler, and [Marsh-Knights].<ref name=":0" /> Due to the waterlogged terrain, Desonis architecture consists of raised buildings on stilts to allow floods to pass by. Every house and settlement also have Dry Spots, areas that are kept free of water, to store food in and retreat to during floods. The keep channels of freshwater for safe aquaculture, hanging nets to prevent predators and monsters like Hydras from getting in.<ref name=":1">[https://wanderinginn.com/2023/01/24/interlude-foody-discussions/ Interlude - Foody Discussions]</ref> They value good lumber for shipbuilding and firewood, and as it is not abundant in their marshes, they will raid the forests of their enemies for it.<ref name=":2">[https://wanderinginn.com/2023/03/29/interlude-the-spitoon/ Interlude - The Spitoon]</ref> A popular custom is having an hot tub inside your home, which is indicative of how the people of Desonis has become accustomed and welcomed the pervasive rainy climate. Mud baths are also common.<ref name=":0" /> They also make a sauce called ''forkev''. It is made from baby eels, baked of their oils and ground up into paste, then mixed with a lot of shallots, roasted peppers, and some big tuber plants, with broth and lard added at completion.<ref name=":1" />
