Desonis

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

Desonis is one of the kingdoms to the east of Terandria. It is currently ruled by Queen Geilouna.

Its crest is a wavy pattern over a rearing hydra head.[1]

Overview[edit | edit source]

Desonis is a coastal kingdom covered in marshes, mainly populated by Humans and LIzardfolk. As such, they specialize in fishing, while are also well known for their pottery made from the clay deposits in the marshes.[2][3] Although it is smaller compared to most Terandrian kingdoms, it is moderately prosperous and known for the Earl of the Rains, its sleepy ruler, and [Marsh-Knights].[2]

Due to the waterlogged terrain, Desonis architecture consists of raised buildings on stilts to allow floods to pass by. Every house and settlement also have Dry Spots, areas that are kept free of water, to store food in and retreat to during floods. The keep channels of freshwater for safe aquaculture, hanging nets to prevent predators and monsters like Hydras from getting in.[4] They value good lumber for shipbuilding and firewood, and as it is not abundant in their marshes, they will raid the forests of their enemies for it.[5]

A popular custom is having an hot tub inside your home, which is indicative of how the people of Desonis has become accustomed and welcomed the pervasive rainy climate. Mud baths are also common.[2] They also make a sauce called forkev. It is made from baby eels, baked of their oils and ground up into paste, then mixed with a lot of shallots, roasted peppers, and some big tuber plants, with broth and lard added at completion.[4]

Military Strength[edit | edit source]

Desonis has a strong navy,[4] and is famously good in close range naval battles.[5] Their ships are far more maneuverable than most nations', and some are covered with tanned hydrahide rather than wood. They're known to fight using [Hydromancers] and water tanks. They conjure jets and walls of water, board ships with water bridges, and create whirlpools.[6]

Their [Marsh Knights], while considered one of the least honorable Knight order, barely above the Order of the Hydra, operate well in swampy environments and under stormy weather. They rise out of rivers, hurl mud at the enemy's eyes, and throw nets.[5]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

During the Second Antinium War that took place in Izril, the [Necromancer], Az’kerash, suddenly turned against Desonis with a massive army of Undead. He quickly overwhelmed the kingdom’s army but did not approach the capital. Rather, he seized a local port and set sail towards Northern Izril, where he marched south towards Liscor.[7]
