== Background ==
Dragial was obsessed with Mershi even back when he was a Spell Lord. He taught a class on dead Walled Cities and gathered loyal fanatics to his cause.<ref name=":2" /> He was known to ruin people's careers and reputations if they did not accede to his will.<ref name=":4" />

The Ruinstrider Tribe, a small, minor Gnoll tribe known for searching old ruins<ref name=":0" />, was hired by Dragial to find clues to the fallen Walled City of Stars.<ref name=":2" /> Lehra Ruinstrider, one of the gnolls, was on a searching team that found the Blade of Mershi. They brought it to Dragial and wanted a fair price or perhaps to auction it, but, at least in Lehra's memory, Dragial betrayed them. After this, Lehra picked up the Blade, which chose her. <ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2021/06/02/8-25-kh/ Chapter 8.25 KH]</ref> Ever since, Dragial has pursued Lehra all over Izril, rampaging through cities and even trying to hold her tribe hostage once.<ref name=":2" />
