==Requirements==
To become a guardsman in the city watch one can't just sign up, but has to be voted in. At least 50 citizens have to vouch for that person to be allowed entrance to the watch.<ref name="1.10" /> A high level of competence is expected.<ref name="2.44" />

A recruit will spend four months as a trainee, and then two years on probation as a junior guardsman before becoming a full time guardsman.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2022/08/27/9-11-w/ Chapter 9.11 W]</ref>

The requirements to become a Senior Guardsman are even harsher. At least 400 hundred people have to vote for one person to get promoted.<ref name="1.10">[https://wanderinginn.com/2016/08/31/1-10/ Chapter 1.10]</ref> The Watch Captain also has her say in promotions, and may also demote members for offenses in office.<ref name=":Two Rats" />
