== Background ==
Necromancers are [[Mages]] that reanimate the dead as [[undead]] and manipulate them as minions. They used to be common, and according to [[Regis Reinhart|Regis]], as valuable as diamonds in the past.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/04/07/4-26-m/ Chapter 4.26 M]</ref> The [[Hunter's Guild of Noelictus]] used to employ them. Archmage [[Az’kerash|Perril Chandler]] popularized undead-based farming in his time. After his fall from grace, necromancy became reviled and illegal on [[Terandria]] and [[Izril]], and was no longer taught in [[Wistram Academy|Wistram]]. Necromancy spellbooks were purged in Terandria and in occupied land in [[Chandrar]].<ref name=":1">{{VERef|Heroes of Hraace (Pt. 3)}}</ref>

Self-taught [Necromancers] are called hedge-[Necromancers]. They are now the most common practitioners on Terandria and Izril after the Necromancer's infamy. Trained Necromancers often had safeguards in their creations such as death-words and Writs of Sealing. A death-word is a word that when used will immediately destroy the undead and undo its magical bindings. A Writ of Sealing is a set of inviolible rules the undead must follow.<ref>{{VERef|10.13}}</ref>

== Powers and Abilities ==
Generally Necromancers lack many direct spells to attack their foes. High level necromancers are different of course, but the strength of death magic lies in minions and spells which sap energy. It is said that necromancy, above other schools of magic, is the mastery of preparation.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2018/04/10/4-27-h/ Chapter 4.27 H]</ref>

Low-level necromancer can bring down villages if they are given enough dead bodies, and they level <em>fast</em> when that happens.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2016/08/31/1-10/ Chapter 1.10 ]</ref>

Any Necromancer about Level 30 should be able to command a small horder of the Undead, although already existing ones; they wouldn't necessarily be able to ''raise'' a horde themselves. Furthermore, they would still be rather restricted. They would likely at best be able to direct them only in a general sense. A Necromancer with an authority-Skill over death can not only command undead, but be acknoweldged by the world in a way which lets them change the natural order. This let's them be able to create a Natural Death's Door, or Death Spot, which uncontrollably sucks in death mana to create powerful rogue undead.<ref name=":1" />
