The '''Tallguard''' is the [[Fraerlings|Fraerling]] military force that defends their settlements. == Overview == The Tallguard defend and ensure the safety of Fraerling settlements. They keep watch for danger, fend off monsters and dangerous animals, as well as kill or allow the deaths of any Tallfolk that get too close to their cities or spot a Fraerling.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2021/03/14/interlude-the-rower-and-the-bartender/ <nowiki>Interlude - The [Rower] and the [Bartender]</nowiki>]</ref> They sometimes get called in to deal with incidents within the cities, like killers or monsters. They perform Gathering Runs, where they go out to gather food, alchemical goods, and other necessities from collection spots with Bags of Holding. They're also the ones who set the Allotment, the amount of magic a city can use without drawing too much attention.<ref name=":0">[https://wanderinginn.com/2021/06/08/interlude-luan-the-giant/ Interlude - Luan the Giant]</ref> They operate and undergo training in Outposts, forts that oversee a region. They swear no allegiance to any specific city, but will protect any settlements within their area, who provide them with artifacts and Signim. Training is intense, and typically nineteen out of twenty recruits will wash out. The leader of the outpost is the Skywatcher. Under them are Sentry Leaders, which have a minimum requirement of Level 30 to have the position, though it is not of sufficient rank to make decisions for a Fraerling city. The Farspeaker is the nominal superior of the Tallguard within a Fraerling city, and can coordinate them during a crisis.<ref name=":0" /><ref name=":1">[https://wanderinginn.com/2022/04/17/8-80/ Chapter 8.80]</ref> An ''Iuncuta''-Commander is the appointed joint head of a multi-settlement taskforce.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2022/07/10/9-05-npr/ Chapter 9.05 NPR]</ref> == Equipment and Resources == Members are all highly enchanted, and can wear eight [[Artifacts]], which will have almost no magical leakage due to the quality of Fraerling magic. Tallguard from First Founding cities tend to have access to superior Artifacts, and high-grade munitions like vortex bolts, which are considered relic-grade by other species and nations.<ref>{{VERef|10.07}}</ref> Common equipment includes: * Enchanted Armor * Enchanted Shortsword * Enchanted Crossbow * Enchanted Rope and Grappling Hook * Boots of Jumping<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2021/03/21/8-14-n/ Chapter 8.14 N]</ref> *Sticky Boots * Lodestone Bracelet * Signim They mostly don't use weapons like longspears, though there are exceptions.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2022/10/30/9-22-gn/ Chapter 9.22 GN]</ref> They use Lodestones, which move in-sync with each other, for secure communications. They move the stones on their bracelets, which moves stones in their outpost monitored by a specialist. <ref name=":2">[https://wanderinginn.com/2022/03/27/8-76-b/ Chapter 8.76 B]</ref> Signim is their last resort and the most valuable item they are issued. It is a little, shatterproof bottle containing a potion that grants them and their Fraerling-made gear human size for 4 minutes, and it scales the power of their Levels and Skills accordingly as well as magnifies the power of [Mages] tenfold. It is difficult to make and even the best cities only make a little annually, thus they only use it in an emergency. "Signim free" means that they are allowed to use it.<ref name=":1" /> For travel, they commonly request teleportation from their Headquarters or ride animals, such as chipmunks,<ref name=":2" /> bats, dragonflies<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2023/03/12/9-40-gg/ Chapter 9.40 GG]</ref> or birds. They do not use birds that have bright colors and would attract attention.<ref name=":0" /> Some Tallguard will be part of the Crelerbane forces, also called Crelerbreakers. These are Fraerlings wearing full suits of adamantium armor, with no airholes, an internal air supply, glowing crystals to see out of,<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2021/08/04/8-35/ Chapter 8.35]</ref> spells in their gauntlets, and potions built-in internally to heal them. However, they cannot use Signim while wearing the armor.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2022/03/30/8-77-b/ Chapter 8.77 B]</ref> == Members == === Known Members === * Cein *[[Cotm]] - [Encyclopedia Scout] β [Almanac Captain] *[[Eirnos]] - ''Iuncuta-''Commander *[[Ekrn]] - Sentry Leader β Commander * [[Noa]] - [Sentry] *[[Rozcal]] - Commander *Shoike - Patrol Captain *Thremagus === Former Members === * [[Heish]] (Failed trainee) * [[Kessice]] - Sniper (''Deceased'') *[[Niers Astoragon]] (left to become an adventurer) *Poire - Crelerbane Commander (''Deceased'') *Porwinke (became a [Masseuse]) == Outposts == * Feiland *Reton == Trivia == * Signim bottles are reused.<ref name=":1" /> == References == <references /> [[Category:Groups/Organizations]] [[Category:Fraerlings]] [[Category:Tallguards]] [[Category:Baleros]]
