Editing Trials of Levelling

The '''Trials of Levelling''' are a series of three trials that evaluates species for their potential for levelling and induction into the [[System|Grand Design]].

== Overview ==
Set forth by the Grand Design, the Trials of Levelling challenges new intelligent, eligible species to be "worthy of levelling." Known eligible species include Sariant Lambs, Trolls, Gargoyles,<ref name=":2" /> as well as the ape tribes on Baleros.

The Trials and their conditions are announced as a revelation every ten years to all members of the species. The Grand Design keeps track of a species' progress in completing the trials, generating a report every year. After completing the Trials, the species is then appraised by the Grand Design, to be either accepted into the system or rejected. People with classes and levels are incapable of knowing or understanding the existence of the Trials of Levelling: they can't hear if someone is talking about the Trials, while any writings are perceived as blank.<ref>[[Chapter 9.32]]</ref> This suppression of knowledge also extends to members of species who passed the Trials but did not get levels in the end. However, levelless people, or "Rulebreakers" can learn about the Trials. People with levels via the [[Pavilion of Secrets]] or if they have the Skill [Condition: Rulebreaker's Thoughts]. There is no time limit for the Trials.

After successfully completing the tasks, there is a judgement phase where all the species' members are summoned into the heart of the Grand Design, and appraised for the right to gain classes and levels. Failure is possible, as such was the case with [[Dragons]] and [[Crelers]].<ref name=":2">[[Interlude – The Competition|Interlude - The Competition]]</ref><ref name=":0">[[Interlude – Brewing Sariants|Interlude - Brewing Sariants]]</ref>Regardless of the outcome of this judgement phase, all knowledge and memory of the Trials of Levelling are wiped afterwards.<ref name=":0" />  

== History ==
The first species of the world such as Humans, Goblins, and Dwarves did not have to undergo the Trials of Levelling.<ref name=":3">{{VERef|Redscar– Interlude}}</ref>  

Millennia ago, Dragons built an eight-hundred foot tower, a hundred feet higher than they needed,<ref name=":1">[https://wanderinginn.com/2023/10/17/9-61-g/ Chapter 9.61 G]</ref> made out of gems, Adamantium, and Dragonbone in one of the Dragonthrones, though it was later destroyed by a Tier 8 spell. When the Dragons were appraised to join the system of levelling, they were rejected.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2023/04/16/interlude-levels/ Interlude - Levels]</ref> 

Other species that later completed the Trials and passed the judgement phase were [[Jinn]], [[Fraerlings]], [[Selphids]], [[String People]], and lastly [[Antinium]] after a long period where no one else had qualified.<ref name=":1" /> [[Golems]] and [[Wyverns]] have also made towers. 

On orders of the [[First Grand Queen]], the Antinium built a tower made out of gemstones and marble in their Hives for the competition of the Trial of Creation. 

[[Crelers]] were the last species to have reached the judgement phase after the Antinium.<ref name=":1" /> 

Six hundred and twenty-four years ago, Sariant Lambs were presented with the Trials of Levelling. However,  difficulty completing it due to their weak bodies and inability to survive on their own. They once tried to build a tower that stood fifty foot before it was destroyed by [[Rhisveri Zessoprical]].<ref>[[Chapter 9.06]]</ref> So far, they have earned the respect of six individuals, and the tallest tower they've built is 214.4 feet in height.<ref name=":0" />

Tribes of apes and monkeys on [[Baleros]] are also trying to complete the Trials. The sudden expansion of the [[Dyed Lands]] have wrecked their progress at completing the Trial of Creation.<ref>[https://wanderinginn.com/2023/06/04/interlude-trade-and-travel/ Interlude - Trade and Travel]</ref>
