Appearance[edit | edit source]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Background[edit | edit source]

Blake is from New Zealand and was playing rugby with friends when he was suddenly transported to Baleros. He landed in a waist-high pool of water and was attacked by several fish and leeches. In the time it took him to make it to shore, he was bitten at least 3 times and picked up 3 leeches. He still has scars on his lower body from the encounter.[1]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

Volume 6[edit | edit source]

After escaping the pool of vicious fish and leeches Blake encounters a group of Earthers from Italy and, possibly, Venezuela. They were attacked by two centaurs and a group of other earthers the first night. Blake has stated that the other humans were acting like monsters and had been on Baleros for some time. The four survivors of the attack (Diana, Blake, Lorenzo, and Nicola) fled into the jungle. They found a village of Dullahans who took them in and heard their story. Appalled by the attack, the Dullahans tracked and killed the bandit group. Two days later, they evicted the humans from their village as they felt they were useless and did not contribute. The four earthers then fled to an abandoned village where they remained for an estimated three weeks before being found by the Bushrangers and brought to the United Nation's Headquarters.[1]

Daly and Dawson are thrilled to meet a kiwi and the three of them rib each other over their upbringings and accents. Upon arrival at UN headquarters, Blake helps Nicola explain Diana's need for insulin to the others.[1]

Blake is present when Geneva returns to the company.[2]

He and Lorenzo have discussed Lorenzo's knowledge of Chinese, hand-crankked, repeating crossbows.[2] They have discussed these ideas with Paige. Blake used to be a gamer and has talked to Paige about the possibility of building Ballistae. He is fairly sure they used skeins of rope and torsional force.[3]

Blake is present when Luan arrives back at headquarters from his latest row.[3]

Volume 7[edit | edit source]

When Luan is being hunted and regularly beaten after his adventures at the Games of Daquin, the United Nations takes steps to protect him. Blake leads a group in defending the headquarters with crossbows in case they are attacked.[4]

Blake has volunteered at Geneva's Yellow Rivers clinic.[4] The clinic is increasingly overwhelmed by a sick populace and people desperate for help charge the clinic doors. In the chaos, Blake attempts to defend Aiko. Aiko's suit is compromised and she falls ill with Yellow Rivers. Despite concerns that the protective suits aren't functioning properly, Blake resolves to continue working at the clinic. He falls ill with yellow rivers as a result. [4]

Volume 8[edit | edit source]

Blake is part of a group (including Nicola, Myron, and Andel) arguing about the future of the UN and whether they should go to Wistram, Remi Canada, or maybe the Singer of Terandria. Some members of the UN are becoming unhappy with the current situation and feel there is a lack of democratic input because of the leadership council. Blake appears to be working to diffuse the situation before Paige arrives.[5]
