tl;dr edit edit source
Ryoka bickers with Magnolia over revealing Earth secrets, then Great Mage Nemor declares war on Magnolia on behalf of the Circle of Thorns.
Synopsis edit edit source
Ryoka arrives at Magnolia's mansion after making an acquaintance of Reynold and is cajoled into meeting with the [Lady]. They trade barbs for a while, and Ryoka is stumped by Magnolia's eloquent stings. When Ryoka refuses to engage in the conversation or reveal secrets about her world, Magnolia becomes more and more impatient. Things come to a head when Magnolia attempts to use her [Charm] Skills to make Ryoka talk. Ryoka manages to resist and attempts to physically retaliate, only to be stopped by Ressa.
The conversation turns to warfare, and Ryoka accuses Magnolia of coveting military knowledge to bolster her own power. Magnolia corrects her, stating that any single army with guns can be easily defeated using the advantages afforded to Innworlders in the form of magic and Skills. What she professes to fear is a changed world where each side has a functionally unlimited supply of guns, inevitably leaving the most numerous side victorious, as that would greatly favor the Antinium, whose breeding capabilities far outmatch those of other races.
Magnolia questions Ryoka on the expected timeframe for a power with the pertinent information to manufacture guns on a large scale. When Ryoka names sulfur as one of the ingredients of gunpowder, Magnolia's reaction reveals that there's already someone with the necessary information making moves to establish firearms production.
Magnolia then changes the topic: She ultimately wants industrial Earth inventions (initially disguising it as a request for sweets), to commercially exploit them and fortify her economic strength. Ryoka isn't entirely resistant to the idea, but has trouble accepting that such inventions will be under Magnolia's complete monopoly. Met with Magnolia's insistence that she comply, Ryoka attempts to call for help from Ivolethe. But Magnolia displays her power over her land and banishes the Faerie. Shaken, Ryoka claims she must be allowed to leave to stop the Antinium from going to war. She reveals that the Antinium believe their true enemy is a God, which Magnolia initially disbelieves, but then accepts as valid once she learns it's from Klbkch[1]. Magnolia immediately realizes the importance of Ryoka's information and proposes to be allies, which Ryoka accepts. Suddenly, the wall explodes, and Great Mage Nesor and multiple [Assassins] appear to issue a declaration of war on Magnolia, on behalf of the Circle of Thorns.
