Chapter 3.35 is the 45th chapter of Volume 3 and the 17th chapter of Book 4, Winter Solstice.

Ryoka reads some history books and spots Laken in Invrisil.

Above Esthelm a group of Frost Faeries watch as Erin curiously follows a sewer slime. Ceria manages to stop Erin before she can touch the slime. Ivolethe leaves the group and flies off to find Ryoka still reading in Magnolia's library in Invrisil. Annoyed, she manages to convince Ryoka to stop reading and do something.

The day after the attack on Magnolia's manor, Magnolia and Ressa head north towards the Reinhart estate in First Landing, Ryoka instead has stayed for a week waiting for the Horn's loot from Albez to be appraised. Ryoka reads through various history books in the library and summarizes what she's learned in her research:

War dominates the history of the world and it's a never ending cycle because there is never a victor because conquering the world is far too hard. The world is too large, Empires become reliant on their high level rulers but when they lose too much when they die. The second factor is that smaller nations can give rise to a high levelled individual and turn them into a powerhouse overnight. Incidentally there were [Heroes] once, but it's a rare class. Empires that develop magical innovation lose much of its progress when their mages die leading to stagnation.

She also realises that there are no mentions of the Gods anywhere at all, there are hints but they are never directly referenced. Rhir is always at war and there's always a Blighted King or Queen fighting something - the Antinium are new but the Demons emerged 5,000 years ago. Ryoka suspects that the dead God that Klbkch mentioned is constantly making things to destroy Rhir.

Ryoka finds out about one of the major powers of the world, the Slavers of Roshal and the Minotaurs that live at the edge of the world.

Ryoka finally leaves with Ivolethe, and when the Faerie spots Reynold she snatches some of the food that he's eating. Before they leave Ryoka asks Reynold where the other Earthers that Erin told her about are, he reluctantly tells her that they are trying to become adventurers. Reynold take the two to Invrisil via carriage and drops Ryoka off at the Runner's guild.

After her delivery she and Ryoka wander around the city while waiting for Reynold to find them. They witness an adventurer picking a fight with a troll or Half-troll woman. Ryoka wants to move along but Ivolethe asks her to stay so she can watch what the man beside the Half-troll does.

Laken tries to placate the man and apologizes but the adventurer starts threatening Durene when she defends his blindness. Laken uses his aura to suppress the man before the Watch arrives. As the Watch breaks them up and forces both parties to go along their way Laken insults the Guardswoman in german.

Ryoka overhears and asks Ivolethe why the man is special and she tells her that she sees the mark of command on him. Ryoka decides to follow the man from Earth.
