First Appearance

Chapter 8.51 D

The Third Mind, referred to as Dictum, is one of the leaders of the Selphids, and is tasked with investigating the Wasting.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

As a Mind, it looks like a vaguely rotund mass of bodyless Selphids.

Personality[edit | edit source]

The Third Mind is clinical and speaks in a collective, royal 'we'. It sees itself as superior to ordinary Selphids. It is willing to do whatever it feels is necessary to cure the Wasting and save its people. It has no reluctance manipulating the thoughts of a non-selphid like Geneva to further its ends. The Second Mind views them as insular and selfish, and it views the Second Mind as divergent.[1]

Component Selphids[edit | edit source]

  • Yeque
  • Bethi

Background[edit | edit source]

The Third Mind was created with the express intent of researching the Wasting disease.[1] It took in tens of thousands of Selphids who had encountered the Wasting or seen its effects and tried to stop it.[2]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

In Geneva's Mind by LeChatDemon

The Third Mind convinced most of the other Minds to abduct Geneva Scala instead of letting her leave Baleros to treat Erin Solstice. Then, it connected with Geneva's mind and used her knowledge and thought process to study the Wasting. However, with lessons from the Second Mind, she learned to resist its intrusions and regained her mental autonomy.[1]

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

As a Mind, it can use telepathy and telekinesis. It can create a mindscape to visualise information, and call upon the experiences and memories of its component individuals. It can manipulate the thoughts of those it connects with. It can also cast magic.[1]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • It has tried over 24,316 different alchemical creations on volunteers in its efforts to cure the Wasting.[2]
