Huntsong Chapter 1 — Haeight is the 1st chapter of Huntsong.

Synopsis

A fifteen year old girl named Haeight interviews to join the Hunters of Noelictus. However, one of the interviewers, [Veteran Hunter] Dorikhem gives her an intentionally hard question, giving her three tries to guess what caused the scar on his face. Although she answers correctly, Dorikhem simply leaves, though the other interviewers realizes that he's trying to leave Haeight behind and tells her to chase after him. She runs after them for two miles, with Dorikhem reluctantly taking her along.

After making camp for the night, Haeight asks Dorikhem why he tried to leave her, Dorikhem reveals that her childhood friend, Duchess Greina had recommended her, but disparages both girls, claiming that they lacked the temperament for the Hunter's Guild in Menorome. Incensed, Haeight claims that she'll become the greatest [Hunter] in Noelictus, which greatly amuses Dorikhem.

Haeight trains for four years as a [Novice Hunter]. Her squad is taught by [Death Hunter] Aishe on how to kill undead safely and efficiently. She becomes a [Hunter] after reaching Level 18.

As a [Hunter], Haeight goes on solo hunts, taking down groups of undead. During this time, she is sometimes observed by Dorikhem, who mostly criticizes her and takes naps. Two years into her training, she receives a letter from Greina, saying that she is quitting as a [Hunter] and becoming an adventurer, claiming that the Hunter's Guild is corrupt.

Later, Dorikhem reveals that she told Greina to quit, enraging Haeight enough to attack him with her axe; however he easily parries her blows. Dorikhem tells her that the Hunter's Guild is not for dreamers, but Haeight insists on finding out the truth.

After three years, Haeight is eighteen years old and now a Level 25 [Close-Combat Hunter], and hasn't exchanged a letter with Greina, now a Silver-rank adventurer. At her level, she is marked down as a potential Dedicated Hunter at the Hunter's Guild in Noelictus's capital. She is shocked to learn about Dorikhem's death.

Dorikhem's body is brought back for his funeral and burial. Haeight overhears the older [Hunters] talking about Dorikhem's early days when he was considered to be one of the prodigies of the Hunter's Guild in contrast to his later years of lazing around. Suspicious about the closed-casket service, Haeight opens the coffin's lid, revealing Dorikhem's ravaged body in pieces. Shocked and horrified, Haeight is berated by the furious [Guildmaster] of Fiskren's Hunter Guild, and is left wondering how Dorikhem died. She later leaves for Menorome.
