Slimes

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

Slimes are a type of monster made of gelatinous liquid.

Biology and Behavior[edit | edit source]

While considered closer to golems, slimes are living creatures. They are made up of a gelatinous liquid with a mana core inside, and may grow to a huge size.[1] Removing or destroying the core kills the slime and causes the liquid to collapse. A slime's core needs to be the size of an apple before it will move around, and their capabilities are limited with smaller cores. A slime can consume the core of other slimes, which grows their own core. The ooze is considered a part of them, and slimes retain the properties of their original liquid.[2][3] Slime cores have an innate conflict-resolver for conflicting elements, allowing for two-elemental and even three-elemental slimes to exist.[4]

They breed and spawn in nature in bodies of liquid under the right conditions,[2] and can be created artificially with a bit of slime or Slime Jelly and a mana stone.[5] A person's Skills may be used to create a new breed of slime. Creating slimes from exotic, more valuable substances requires a lot of magic, typically provided by Seith. Pet-breeds refer to artificial slimes that could not survive in the wild, such as Citrus Slimes.[6]

Slimes eat by engulfing their food and digesting it inside themselves. Slimes are sustained by absorbing the liquid they are composed of. Slimes made of complex substances like potions can be fed with the ingredients of said substance. Slimes are capable of thought, and while it is believed they don't feel pain, they do feel the loss of parts of their body. A slime remade from its core will remember what previously ended and react to it.[5] Slimes can also be tamed and trained.[6]

Archers are a bad matchup against slimes, who need either enchanted arrows to deal with one or for another person to scatter the slime body so they can target the mana core.[1]

Products[edit | edit source]

On top of being able to harvest the substance a slime is made of, happy and fed slimes produce Slime Jelly. Slime-based products are valued by [Alchemists] and [Chefs].[6]
