Volume 9 edit edit source
After being at the arena where Yvlon and Prince Zenol reunited, Barelle toured Nerrhavia‘s Fallen for two months. Coincidentally wherever he went political support for Prince Zenol arose.[4]
Later he visits General Thelican before the final battle for Pomle. He also keeps Orrin from killing deserters from Thelican‘s army. He also composed a song about the battle and its most important participants.[4]
Volume 10 edit edit source
After the battle, he returns to Nerrhavia's Fallen and visits the Court of Silk, however he doesn't involve himself in politics and refuses to play his harp to please the court or to create a ballad for the Horns, which are the newest attraction to the court, he is sympathetic with Prince Zenol because had a friendship with his father, however he does not support him politically. He does allow him to join along as he leaves to visit Cognita in a bar, it's inferred that he's purpose is to talk with her of her past and see what has happened to her and change her enough to have left Wistram. It's not their first time meeting, and Cognite considers him one of her few acquaintances. A person of interest. In his talk with Cognita he does mention how he can't be everywhere and that he himself has missed some of the most important events, including the meeting of the tribes and the accounting of ghosts. He does remark, that he missed the opportunity to truly meet Erin and get her story before her death and later return. His talk with Cognita leaves him saddened by her description of trying to find a replacement for her master Zelkyr with other Golem makers in Narrhavia, and how being abused is the closest experience she has had to that feeling. After questioning and telling her she doesnt need a master, her only reply is that she was made to want to have a master.
Later when Horns arrive in Nerrhavia and are causing chaos at the Coliseum, he refuses Colth's offer to join the brawl, deciding instead to join the audience alongside with Cognita, as the chaos ensued he did show signs of joining the brawl to protect Elena Othonos when she was about to be captured and held captive by the coliseum guards but was stopped from interfering by Cognita and because Elena was eventually saved without his interference. And he also paid attention when Cognita's interest in the Horns, and comments about Piseces and her bet with Yvlon Byres.

Quotes edit edit source
- To the audience:
- “Ladies and Gentlemen. And [Actors] too.”
- “Eat, speak, dine, and of course, enjoy. I only ask that you give me time to perform without having to compete.”
- “I am a [Fartraveller Bard], a [Bard of Stories]. I have been both. I have seen terrible tragedies, walked through war, and spoken with those who fought against legends, both monsters and men like the King of Destruction. I have performed for [Kings] and [Beggars] and been humbled by both former and latter. Tonight though, I think we have no time for such stories. Nor shall I compete with Elisial!”
- “This young woman has done so much already. Already—three cities and more are connected, across hundreds of miles thanks to her! Already, a team of adventurers reached Gold-rank for her help! I am speaking of course, of Erin Solstice. And to her, I shall play—”
- To Erin:
- “Miss Solstice, I apologize for my performance. It was a poor one and I took it too lightly. Another sign I have yet to master my craft.”
- “What you perceive about yourself is not what others see. But tell me, Miss Solstice. What makes you unworthy of the praise?”
- “Miss Solstice, we’ll certainly speak again. If only because your unusual friend seems to want to inspect my lyre. How ever did you find a fellow student of the craft among Goblins?”
- (To Ryoka) “The [Emperor]? Certainly, Miss Griffin. We’ll talk, shall we? But I do need to get up on stage before Miss Emme hamstrings me—”
- To the audience:
- “Ladies and gentlemen. Guests of the Unseen Empire. And visitors from however far they come. I am Barelle the Bard. And it is my duty, my honor, to open this day of festivities. This longest day. This—Summer Solstice.”
- “This day belongs to you, dear guests. And whilst I invite you to all dine and make merry, there shall be great tales, performed by the Players of Celum. Wondrous sights, by the Skylights! Performances by masters and mistresses of their craft all. And I shall sing. Sing of battle against the Circle of Thorns. Tell the story of a brave Runner—”
- “—and of the [Innkeeper] of Liscor.”
- “But this is not the time. At this moment, by your leave, Lords and Ladies, Emperor—let this celebration begin!”
- (To Ryoka) “Once more, it is time for [Bards] to shape the stories they tell for the better.”
- (To Cognita) “It is worth living dangerously to find out how each story ends. And they should end right. Gloriously, tragically—but right. So they call me the Meddling Storyteller.”
