Quotes[edit | edit source]

Volume 1[edit | edit source]

  • (To Ryoka) “I am Calruz of the Beriad. I lead the Horns of Hammerad, an adventuring party in these parts. I am in your debt, Ryoka Griffin. May we sit?”
  • (To Erin) “Those who believe they will lose before battle begins have already lost.”
  • To Erin:
    • “If you can injure me I will hang up my axe and cease living as a warrior this instant.”
    • “That—was a dishonorable blow.”
  • (To the undead) “Pathetic spirits of the dead! I am Calruz, leader of the Horns of Hammerad! I challenge you. Face me and meet your end!

Volume 5[edit | edit source]

  • To Ceria:
    • “You’ve returned to me. My precious teammate. My Horn of Hammerad. At last I have someone to rely on. Someone to help me.”
    • “Hold, Ceria. Those are my prisoners.”
    • “Why, they are my team of course. A new team. A…tribe. I lead them. The Raskghar are my tools to conquer the dungeon.”
    • “Yes. My teammate. You’re here. We can finally finish our job. We’ll conquer this dungeon and emerge as heroes! Heroes, Ceria! Imagine it!”
  • (To Ceria) “Look. My tribe multiplies. This is mine. Mine! And you—you are mine too. Traitor or not. You will be mine. I will make you mine.”
  • (To Ceria) “I trusted you. I called you my friend. I told you my secrets. Even when you tried to kill me, I trusted you. And this is how you repay me? With treachery? With this?
  • (To Ceria) “I can hear her. You shouldn’t have taken me out. She knows. She’s waiting for you to let her out.”

Volume 6[edit | edit source]

  • (To Ceria) “Better to die sane than down there, like a monster.”
  • (To 2 Rats) “You shall be Haldagaz, Vanquisher of Foes. And you will be Rhata, Trident-Guardian of the Harbor of Hammerad.”
  • (To Crelers) “Death before dishonor!

Volume 7[edit | edit source]

  • (To Haldagaz & Rhata) “The only thing wrong with me—is me. And the longer I sit here, the longer we are all trapped. Look at you two. You deserve better.”
  • (To Rhata) “But I wish to perform a deed like that. I could enter the heart of the dungeon. Fight to my last against…anything. I would walk the Bloodfields until my death and delay the growth of that blight another second. Another inch. But let me die like that. Don’t let me—drag her down with me.”
  • (To Bezale) “Someone with the right to judge. Which neither you nor I have.”
  • To Erin:
    • “Because there is nothing to save. Goblins? Goblins can fight with honor, for all they are a foe my people have fought against. Antinium may be a people, foreign as they are. But the Raskghar are nothing but madness. Look at me.”
    • “It is the one flaw in a good—no, an excellent Watch Captain. Justice, Erin Solstice. Let those outside have their justice. Or let me exact mine and we will close this chapter, the Raskghar and I.”

Volume 8[edit | edit source]

  • (To Tersk) “You will not. Not because I say it, but because a leader who speaks in that way deserves no loyalty from those he commands. If you ever wish to level—understand why you were wrong. I am not in the House of Minos, but if I heard that from any superior officer, be it [General] or anyone else, I would strike them or resign from my post. If you do not respect those who will fight and die for your words, you do not deserve to speak them.”
