Appearance edit edit source
Personality edit edit source
A former fanfiction writer, Caroline became an internationally successful romance novelist when she saw an un-cornered market for erotica. She has a notable ego in regards to her craft and success, and privately considers her role as a romance author as culturally significant—especially among other Earthers.
Caroline has admitted that she struggles to invent wholly original characters for her romance plots. As a result, she relies heavily on real life for inspiration, supplementing it with a generous dose of lascivious imagination to fill in the gaps. This has led to an exploitative streak in her writing, such as penning a romance between Yvlon and Pisces - in spite of the Horns being presumed dead at the time - or crafting a story about an [Innkeeper] and a [Prince] who end up together after being stranded on an island. When confronted about this habit, she defends her work as “legal” so long as she changes names and minor details, often comparing her stories to the way celebrity tabloids fictionalize real lives.[2] She also has a habit of seeing romance everywhere in casual interactions or moments of vulnerability.
Background edit edit source
Caroline is from Australia. She always wanted to be a romance author and frequently wrote fan fiction, some of it about popular manga.
Chronology edit edit source
Caroline was teleported to Baleros in Daly's group of Earthers from Melbourne's airport. She joined the Gravetender's Fist suppression company until after the battle between the Razorshard Armor Company and the Roving Arrow Company , when she joined the United Nations company when it first formed.
Wanting to help with the United Nations company's money troubles, Caroline proposed to Ken about writing erotica, recognizing the potential popularity of such material. Later that night she went for a walk, and was abducted, presumably by [Slavers]. She was rescued by a Wistram [Mage] and taken to Wistram. Taking advice from Elena, she refused to share information about the Earthers she was with, though was happy to share other stories.[3]
Caroline is mentioned in Blackmage's message to Joseph.[4]
At some point, under the pen name "Heartslayi," she began selling her romantic fiction to magazines. After the raid on the Village of the Dead, she wrote a fictional and somewhat inaccurate interpretation of the Horns of Hammerad's "death."[5]
Caroline began writing a story called The [Cook] and the Centaur, based on Leon's recollection of Imani and Palt. She has also been receiving angry letters from a fan named 'Sandquen,' which she was very annoyed about.[3]
