Chapter 2.12 is the 14th chapter of Volume 2.

tl;dr[edit | edit source]

Ryoka hires Octavia to create stink potions, which she uses to traverse the High Passes. She returns to Teriarch's cave and they renegotiate the delivery.

Synopsis[edit | edit source]

Teriarch discusses Ryoka with Magnolia who is currently residing at Invrisil, when his senses detect the runner running towards his humble abode...

(Earlier that day) Ryoka goes to Octavia's shop and buys knowledge about potions, String People and survivability in the High Passes with a bit of Teriarch's potion. When sniffing on one of Octavia's products, Ryoka gets the idea to let Octavia invent a really horrible stink potion, which she then uses to go all the way to Teriarch. The monsters all vamoose due to the stink, not bothering with hunting her. Even with her noseplugs, Ryoka has to vomit from the stink herself. She reaches Teriarch's cave unimpeded save for the Frost Faeries still bothering her.

(Back at the start of the chapter) Inside, Ryoka faces the old elven mage and throws the book at him - the rulesbook of the Runner's guild. She renegotiates the conditions of her delivery, now getting a compass that always points towards the Necromancer and a runner's fee of 800 gold.

Ryoka then quickly leaves Teriarch, not bothering with his demands to stay and answer the questions that he (and Magnolia) have in store for her.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • This Chapter has one Hidden Texts that needs to be Highlighted to be seen. It is about the Teriarch true Draconic appearance, which is:
    • A massive golden-scaled Dragon stares down at me with annoyance. His massive wings unfurl and beat once, stirring the air—
  • This Chapter has some odd paragraphs in it that will make sense in Chapter 2.17.
