Cultivation is the process of taking in and refining inner energy. This inner energy can be used to enhance the body or an object beyond its limit, to manipulate and damage things, and to increase the power and strength of the soul.

Cultivation is generally only practiced in Drath and few people outside it even know of its existence. This is because special ingredients, which naturally have inner energy, must be absorbed to gain inner energy. These ingredients practically only appear in the Vigilant Isles, and even there, they are rare. The Quarass remarked on its expense being that proper cultivation would beggar her.
The process takes years, and is often difficult or painful as one internalizes foreign substances and the body adapts. It is also best done in conjunction with training and adolescence.
