Edellein Blackwing is the [General] of the 1st Army of Pallass. He comes from the Drake noble family of the Blackwings.

Personality
Background
Edellein is an old Drake, and not an Oldblood Drake despite being born of the Blackwing family. Though he never graduated from Manus, he has risen to his position through decades of service and hard work. He has 40 years of command experience.[1]
Edellein is considered less capable than his younger[2] half-brother, Thrissiam Blackwing, who had been the [General] of the 2nd Pallassian army. The saying that Edellein is no Thrissiam is of concern to the less successful [General] himself.[3] That said, he's known to be good at talent-seeking, having cultivated Comois' talent and being the second general after Thrissiam to incorporate Grimalkin's students into his army.[4]
Chronology
Volume 7
When the Frost Wyverns were attacking Pallass, Edellein tried to lure them into an ambush, presenting them with a large, seemingly unsupervised herd of cattle ready to take. Instead of gorging on the cattle and being slaughtered by the 4th army and giving Edellein the chance to grab juvenile Wyverns to tame; the Frost Wyvern Lord launched an attack on Pallass, which was only defended by the 1st army under Duln. This ambush had been ordered by the Day Strategist - while Edellein had thought it was a good plan, he had also resented the fact that it hadn't been his own.[2] Nevertheless, his absence in Pallass' defense was still considered his fault.[5]
Edellein was also present when [Grand Strategist] Chaldion was injured when falling off a staircase.[3]
Volume 10
Edellein becomes leader of 1st Army and appoints himself strategic leader of Pallass after Duln's death and Chaldion's retirement after the Winter Solstice Conflict.

Talent-seeking
Despite General Edellein strategic shortcomings, he is capable of identifying, seeking out, and nurturing talented individuals. He was the second general to incorporate Grimalkin's methods in his army. Going so far as to recruit some of his pupils. That aside he mentored Lieutenant Comois, who earned his class [Lieutenant of Perfection] while under his tutelage.
