Eir Kelp, or Healing Deathweed, is an exceptionally rare form of kelp that is used to create Eir Gel.[1]
Overview[edit | edit source]
Eir Kelp is extremely dangerous due to the microscopic needles embedded in their blades, which makes it safe from all but the most exceptional predators. Eir Kelp forests are safe havens for various organisms, ranging from tiny minnows to fish as long as Solca's arm, although rarely larger.[1]
Under unknown circumstances, the Eir Kelp Reef in Hesheit stopped producing Eir Gel, leading to a worldwide shortage of healing potions.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
The Eir Kelps exhibit purple and green shades, and their color intensifies with age, transitioning from a light, grassy color to a dark maroon. When mature, these kelps produce pods that contain seeds. These pods glow in bright orange light, and because of their numbers, they resemble lanterns illuminating the waters.[2]
Usage[edit | edit source]
The armored bodies of the Dullahans enable them to handle the Eir Kelp safely, allowing them to dry and process it to create a range of items, such as clothing and baskets. Dullahans can also collect the gel found inside the growth pods, which is an incredibly powerful healing agent and a vital ingredient in creating healing potions.[1][2]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Eir Kelp is deeply rooted in the seabed and is virtually immovable, even in the face of strong ocean currents. Its central vine is ancient, having existed for thousands of years, with younger offshoots resembling loosely dispersed hair under Hesheit.[2]
- If pricked by one of its thorns, an individual may experience sickness for a day, whereas two thorn pricks can cause sickness for two days. However, three or more are usually fatal.[2]
