Potions

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

Potions are alchemical concotions that can heal, restore mana, and do other things to the one who drinks them. They are the result of Alchemy.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Potionmaking has been a somewhat detailed topic in some chapters like Chapter 2.12 (Ryoka in Octavia's shop) and Chapter 6.39 (Numbtongue in Octavia's shop).

Potions become stronger when brewed by high leveled [Alchemists]. For instance if Saliss, a high-Level [Alchemist], makes a low-grade Potion of Barkskin, its strengthen effects would be close to a lesser Potion of Ironscales.[1]

Potions have a wide range of effectiveness and highly varied results due to every [Alchemist] creating their potions differently, as a consequence of a lack of standardisation, secrecy about ingredients and methods, and the use of Skills.[2]

The magic in potions makes them resistant to freezing. If the magic is drained, the potion will become useless, and no longer have this property.[3]

Taste[edit | edit source]

In most cases [Alchemists] can not make Potions taste good at all with some being so bad that they make you throw up before you could down them. It is also impossible to add something like a flavor to potions without creating an entirely different effect, like adding a bit of lemon juice to some to make them taste better only for the entire thing to coat you in poisonous foam.[4] This turns out to not be completely true as Fraerlings know how to make them taste good.[5]

Limitations

  • There is a limit of how often a person can drink a healing potion and expecting it to treat his wounds. After the consumption of a couple ones, the body stops regenerating and makes said person very exhausted.[11]
  • Can't regenerate missing limbs, cure colds, or frostbites.
  • Has the opposite effect on sickness and disease, as it makes them stronger and deadlier.
  • Using it after a workout would restore the body to its previous state, thus negating any muscle build up.
  • With over use and time, people bodies develop resistances to healing potions. Thus they no longer work perfectly.[12]
Costs
  • A Low-grade Healing Potion costs nearly a gold coin in Liscor.[13] It seems to be similarly expensive in Celum.[14]

Notes

  • Healing Potions can come in many colors and qualities. However, the color itself is no indication of its quality.[15]
  • Eir gel is used as a key component for healing potions.[16] [17]
  • There are different ratings for Healing Potions, such as Halflimb damage.[18]
  • Eir-gel based healing potions are accelerants, which is why they make infections and sickness worse. A purifying-based healing potion should be used in those cases instead.[19]

Notes
  • Many ingredients are used towards making this potion.
  • Because of Saliss, the making of this potion is outlawed in the Walled Cities. Still, it is possible to make some, while teaching an apprentice the recipe.
  • Arguably, the orgasm experience is better than most could the old-fashioned way.[33]
Sustenance Providing Potion Effects (When High-quality)
  • Drinking a small bit from it will forestall hunger for a day.
  • Drinking the entire potion at once will provide sustenance for up to a month depending on the level of exertion.

Limitations

  • You will find it difficult to imbibe any other foods in the meantime, although it is possible.
Notes
  • It is a rare acquisition that [Alchemists] may pay well for. It is not a common discovery in adventurer’s packs however, as adventurers generally fail to properly re-seal them.
  • Unlike the majority of potions, these aren't usually consumed all at once, but in small dosages, and improperly sealing the potion between each usage likely leads to the loss of its magical properties.[34]

  • Some potions, like Invisibility potions, cannot be used by Dragons.[37]
