Gazers

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

Gazers are one of the Races of Innworld, found mostly in Baleros.

Physiology[edit | edit source]

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Gazers are said to be the least-similar species in the world.[1] A Gazer's most prominent feature are their magical eyes, which vary in numbers and are random from Gazer to Gazer with unpredictable powers and effects.[2] For example: Gazi Pathseeker possesses four small eyes encircling a bigger central eye, Suxhel of Stargazer's Promise has three central eyes and two tendril eyestalks, and Goelv has one large eye, with another on each hand.[3][4] These eyes also come in every color.[1]

Gazers tend to be squat, with pointed teeth and oddly segmented appendages and digits. They possess nose holes rather than noses. Their skin is described to be neither skin or fur and comes in tones of orange-brown and green.[3]

Physical Qualities[edit | edit source]

They apparently have trouble reproducing, more so than Centaurs do.[5]

Magical Qualities[edit | edit source]

Gazers are a race naturally inclined towards magic, like half-Elves and to an extent, Lizardfolk. Their magic is more chaotic than typical [Mages].[6] They can cast spells as easily as looking.[7]

Special Abilities[edit | edit source]

Gazer eyes are magical in nature such that the eyes of strong Gazers retain magical power after the death of their owner, becoming Eye Gems or artifacts.

Gazers can receive Eye-Skills, which are Skills for their eyes that can inflict effects such as paralysis and fear, or shoot lasers.[4]

Subraces[edit | edit source]

Half-Gazers[edit | edit source]

Behavior and Culture[edit | edit source]

Staring hard or widely opening ones eyes is seen as a dangerous gesture. Squinting or closing an eye is considered a gesture of surrender.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

Current information on Gazers is scarce, including physical and social characteristics. What is known, is that descended from Gazers is the population known as half-Gazers. The method of procreation to achieve this is shrouded in mystery at this time. We are unsure, that if like half-elves, the offspring of half-gazers are also half-gazers, or if a full blooded Gazer is required to produce such offspring. It is also currently unknown which species breed with either Gazers or half-Gazers and have the viable genetics.

It is confirmed at that Gazers aren’t a natural race, with ties to Seamwalkers like the Selphids.[8] Meaning that their race could be younger than most other races, though they have been confirmed by association to be older than Goblins.

Relations[edit | edit source]

Relations with other Races[edit | edit source]

They have problems dealing with other races and each other.[9]

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Due to the chaotic nature of their magic, they send very few representatives to Wistram.[6]
  • There is a stone named after their eyes, known as Gazereye. It is a decently powerful hallucinogenic stone whose powers are magical.[10]
  • Gazers keep to themselves and rarely stray from their jungle home.[9]
  • It is rumoured that Gazers came from a Seamwalker, according to the Quarass.[11] This has been confirmed by Geneva.[8]
