First Appearance

Mihaela Godfrey, also known as The Courier of the First Antinium Wars, is a Human Courier and the mother of Valceif Godfrey. She is the Guildmistress of the Runner's Guild in First Landing.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

She is a tal, long-legged, old-looking woman in her late fifties, with short-cropped, white-grey hair, that looked silver, and violet eyes, but very dark and tinged with a shocking pattern of yellow. She has multiple age lines and scars on her skin, and despite her age, she is still in-shape, like a marathon runner.[1]

In her youth her hair was brunette in color.[2]

Personality[edit | edit source]

She is a bad-tempered person, who is not easy to get along even on good days. She doesn't hesitate to attack anyone who gets in her way.

Background[edit | edit source]

She is a famed Courier who lives in north Izril in semi-retirement. She is renown for being the only Courier who was able to escape the Antinium armies during the First Antinium War and participated in the Second Antinium War by outrunning enemy armies and scouts alike to relay information for Izril’s defenders.[3] Wrymvr the Deathless poisoned her, which she never fully healed from as her lungs were permanently damaged.

Among her other adventures, she also fought the final boss monster of the Chalence dungeon.[4]

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • (To Salamani) “Not at all, Salamani. I came here to meet Ryoka Griffin specifically. Thanks for introducing us. Now. Get lost.”
  • (To Ryoka) “I heard Valceif had met a City Runner. That was how he lost his charm. I waited for you to come north. And here you are. You sent a [Message] to me saying Valceif’s death was your fault.”
  • (To Ryoka) “That was personal business. Now. Ryoka Griffin of Celum. The ‘Wind Runner of Reizmelt’. Today is your lucky day.”
  • (To Ryoka) “You don’t have anti-[Appraisal] spells. Your idea of fighting is punching someone with your bare hands without Skills. You can command the wind which is something. Beyond that? You’d fail First Landing’s Courier-test even if it wasn’t me.”
  • (To Ryoka) “Pathetic. Show me something. Why you? Show me what was worth Valceif wasting his charm on! Show me—”
  • (To Ryoka) “I could see liking you. If you had been just some snotty City Runner who made it to First Landing and Valceif was alive…yeah. But I will never like you. Still. There’s nothing here for me. I knew that.”
  • (To Ryoka) “We all die. That’s our fate. But the run is glorious.”
  • (To Ryoka) “I just wanted to hit you a few times. Thanks for that. See you.”
  • (To Ferin) “The Runner’s Guild will not bow to [Assassins]. You never—Reinhart owned your Guild. Why did you stop?”
  • (To Couriers and Runners) “You all saw it. You saw them. Her. No City Runner could have made that run. Not even a Courier alone. And no City Runner made that run. Did she?”
  • (To Montressa) “Running a network isn’t easy. Valley’s as coordinated as a frog in a slicked oil well wearing a suit of plate armor.”
