First Appearance |
Nerul Gemscale is a Drake [Diplomat], and a member of the Gemscale family.
Appearance[edit | edit source]
Nerul is a portly Drake with pale purple scales.[1] He has a sapphire tooth in the back of his mouth, where his old Rhir-tooth used to be.[2]
Personality[edit | edit source]
Nerul is jovial and good-natured though willing to bring on the fire and brimstone when necessary. He is considered to be the black sheep of the Gemscale family due to their general disapproval of the [Diplomat] class. As a diplomat, Nerul can be charming and charismatic, making a person feel like he is their best friend. He can also play the buffoon to catch people off-guard, or bring on the "thunder and fury" to hammer down the exact terms he wants.[1] Ironically, he tends to be blunter around his family, which is another source of contention. He is very perceptive, having recognized at first glance that Ilvriss had changed upon his return from Liscor.[1] He has a fondness for fine food and drink.

Trivia[edit | edit source]
Quotes[edit | edit source]
- (To Dellek’s Council) “Ladies and gentledrakes, I am Nerul, [Diplomat] of the Gemscale family and officially designated representative of the Walled City of Salazsar in regards to the war between the Trisstral Alliance and Salazsar. Both sides want peace, and an amicable solution if one can be arranged. Let’s work this out.”
- To Ilvriss
- “Nephew! How is my favorite troublemaker? Start any more wars for me to fix?”
- “Why? Look around, Ilvriss. The highest-leveled Drakes in our society are all oddballs. Me included.”
- “Young Ilvriss, if I thought people could never change for the better, you’ve proved me wrong.”
- (To Feshi) “Ancestors. Are they going to dance? My nephew must be mad. I knew a Drake who died by strangulation during a dance gone wrong.”
- (To Lyonette) “I have never seen such a splendid execution. The old Winebreath Blaster. Classic diplomatic trick. You, young lady, are a credit to your home. Natural talent. Indeed.”
- (To Lyonette) “She can cook too? First the Winebreath Blaster, now the art of cooking your guests a meal. You, Your Highness, would be an excellent [Diplomat].”
- (To Ilvriss) “Yes. And if you don’t know about him, read up before the battle or he’ll gut you like a fish, Ilvriss. He’s surprised everyone from Chaldion to Luciva herself.”
