Orefell

From The Wandering Inn Wiki

Orefell is a city near the High Passes that was a holding point for a large-scale monster attack in Volume 9.

Geography[edit | edit source]

It is south and west of the village of Ambault.[1]

Economy[edit | edit source]

Orefell was built with higher aspirations than it ever achieved. As its name suggests, it was built as a mining city, but mining there is more about finding smaller seams of semi-precious metals. They can also make money from panning the rivers for jade and some fishing. Herding is unavailable due to monster attacks being a regular threat from the High Passes.[2]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

Orefell was briefly visited by the Silver Swords,[1] but the main event that it was involved in was the monster horde coming down from the High Passes. The path that the monsters took was seen ahead of time giving forces time to mobilize. Unfortunately, capable forces were split on how to attack the horde, and in the end, few actual armies participated in Orefell's defense. Those that did initially included [Lieutenant] Gershal representing Vaunt and bringing with him over 400 soldiers, and [Brigadier] Forount of Wales who represented a coalition of cities and brought with her over 4,000 soldiers. Besides the armies there were also adventuring teams that joined the defense including gold-rank teams the Horns of Hammerad, Halfseekers, Silver Swords, A Pact of Flame and Sword, and Spoken Vow as well as a silver-rank team, The Pride of Kelia, along with three others.

The city's evacuation was ordered as these forces arrived, and the situation was looking very bleak, but more defenders continued to arrive as well. Dwarves forming the Ironveil Company joined the defense expecting a larger show from Izril, and as soon as these dwarves arrived, the monsters attacked. The first clash ended with heavy casualties, but more defenders came to shore up their weaknesses from an even more unexpected source. Crusaders of the antinium joined the battle, and the Beriad were summoned soon after. Even gobins from the Flooded Waters Tribe came to the city's defense albeit under different motivations. Together, these forces were able to beat back the horde and save the city.[2]
