The Fifth Mind, referred to as Sympathy, is one of the leaders of the Selphids, and it studies the natural world and recovers alchemical recipes.

As a Mind, it looks like a vaguely rotund mass of bodyless Selphids.

Chronology[edit | edit source]
During the vote to release Geneva to Niers, it presented the motion to delay, which passed. When Contradiction learned that Geneva's mind was altered, Sympathy and the other Minds subdued it after 9 hours of fighting, forcing it to comply.
After the link between Selphids and Seamwalkers was discovered, Geneva wished to investigate the link further, to research a possible cure for the dependency the residents of A'ctelios Salash have on its meat. It grew angry and refused, telling her to work on the Minds' goals, not worry about a city in Chandrar.
When the Minds tried to merge together into a supermind, Contradiction revealed it had eaten the flesh of A'ctelios Salash, and the Minds were consumed by a ravenous hunger and attacked everyone in the Gathering Citadel. The Forgotten Wing Company and Tallguard held the devouring Selphid mass back until the Gathering Citadel was destroyed by various world powers.[1]
