The Traders of Roshal, also known as the Traders, are the slave traders based in Roshal.
Roshal’s banner consists of an unbalanced set of scales that were weighted on one end, with a bag and a hand on either scale.[1] A magical version of the symbol has the scales change every time one looks at it, never balanced.[2]
Overview[edit | edit source]
The Traders of Roshal are a nation, a power unto themselves. They are similar to Wistram Academy, as Roshal can just be as dangerous in its own way. They have their own army, and more money and wealth than most nations could dream of. They have countless magical artifacts hoarded away, and they would defend their possessions to the death.
The Traders have ways of compelling obedience, of defending themselves. Even Named Adventurers must tread carefully because those who break Roshal’s rules will die, no matter where they are. There are assassins and groups of trained killers that have slain monarchs who go against Roshal. And the Traders have countless thousands of years of knowledge. They know secrets of classes and leveling that even Kings and Rulers don't know,[3] such as the Horror Ranks and Aspects.
When the owner of a [Slave]'s contract frees the slave, Roshal recognizes it by sending a [Slaver] to remove the emancipated [Slave]'s class. In doing so, they also have control over the freeing of slaves.[4]
When nations change hands on Chandrar, they will send an emissary, with perhaps bribes or threats, to ensure that the old treaties they had with the nation are intact. Those treaties let them ply their trade, bid on prisoners of war, and travel unimpeded, with little questions or oversight.[5] They also use their power and wealth to ensure they can freely travel abroad, even in places where slavery is forbidden.[2]
They have rules against enslaving certain species and people without dispensation, such as Goblins and those of A'ctelios Salash.[6]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
