Chapter 7.33 I

Wer, or Wanderer (Real Name Unknown), is a Doombearer and one of the leaders of the White Gnolls living in Salazsar.

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Background[edit | edit source]

Wer travelled across the world before meeting more of his kind. Wer is not his real name. He's been using it for seven years to hide from the tribes.

He and several other Doombearers where organized by Alrric Kerrfa into a group, to better defend themselves and those like them. They settled in the Walled City of Salazsar and Wer became one of the leaders under the codename Wanderer, after his background as a world traveller.[1]

Background[edit | edit source]

After becoming a Doombearer, Wer levelled quickly, soon becoming Level 40 and gaining the Skill [I Walked the Crossroads of Izril]. On his first attempt to explore the crossroads, despite preparing potions and supplies and hiring [Mercenaries], he nearly died twelve times, and only escaped through sheer luck.[2]

Chronology[edit | edit source]

Volume 7[edit | edit source]

Wanderer met with Coinpurse, Shadows, and Spellcaster to discuss rescuing the white Gnoll in Liscor. The person they had hired to do it, Bearclaw, was dead. Wanderer departed to retrieve her personally.[3]

Volume 8[edit | edit source]

Once he arrived, Wer began stalking Mrsha and trying to convince her to come with him. He evaded detection from the Brotherhood of Serendipitous Meetings, which only made them more suspicious. When the Plain's Eye Doomslayers arrived, he went to warn the people in the Inn.[4]

He joined in the defence against Belavierr, intercepting one of her high-tier spells. During the chaos of the fighting, he grabbed Mrsha and escaped with her. He convinced her to accompany him and explain to her what they were.[5]

While travelling, he told her his about his capabilities, where they're going, and demonstrated some of his luck manipulation.[1]

He used his power more and more while avoiding pursuit by Gnolls and ran a luck deficit. They stopped by an Inn and gambled with Mrsha to lessen his burden. The Doomslayers led by Merish arrived just as he got food poisoning. In the altercation involving them and the local Watch, he and Mrsha got separated.[6]

Later, Wer arrived at the Meeting of the Tribes just in time to stop Xherw's attempt to kill Mrsha.[7] He participated in the defense against Plain's Eye and their allies.[8]

Powers and Abilities[edit | edit source]

As an experienced Doombearer, Wer can manipulate luck at will. Furthermore, a function of his [Traveller] class is that he has the potential to learn almost any Skill he encounters. He says he's learned staff arts, running techniques used by [Rangers], and stealth Skills from his travels.[1] He can travel through the Crossroads of Issrysil.[7]

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • (To Mrsha) “So you figured that out too? It’s just one of the things Plains Gnolls refuse to understand. Like us. They call us Doombringers, but that’s not all of our power. Take it, use it—that’s the power our tribes left us. Fate, that’s how Spellcaster talks about it. We’re fated.”
