Eloque is a Lizardwoman and a former [Slave].

Appearance[edit | edit source]

Igheriz changed her appearance from that of a Lizardwoman into something closer to Stringfolk by sewing string into her body, mimicking the seams of Stitchfolk around her joints.

Eloque's scales are multi-colored, brighter than the monochrome Drake scales. She had a neck frill, and the little stitching in her scales, dark thread. For all that, her eyes were clear, bright yellow and slitted.[1] Her scales coloring run from bright orange down to the shades closest—red and yellow and violet at the edges.[2]

As of 9.35 O, all of the stitching has been removed from her, leaving slightly pockmarked scales.

Personality[edit | edit source]

When first introduced, Eloque was shown to be slightly cynical, having lost any hope that she would be freed from slavery. Since being freed, she has regained some of her cheerfulness; however, she is still plagued by nightmares from her time as a [Slave] and the unspeakable acts done to her.

She is enamored with the color indigo, loving it so much that she developed an indigo-spotting habit, as she always passes the time by looking for it. She is also fascinated by noses as Lizardfolk lack them.[1]

Background[edit | edit source]

Eloque was originally from a poor village in Baleros. When [Slavers] came and offered to buy people, Eloque volunteered, believing it to be a noble sacrifice.[1] At some point, she was bought at a port by Igheriz and remained a [Slave] in his caravan for three years. To suit his own tastes, Igheriz sewed string into her joints, making her resemble a Stitch Person.

Chronology[edit | edit source]

When Pisces and the other Horns were teleported across Chandrar, Pisces ended up being found and captured by a [Slave Master] named Igheriz. Igheriz's favorite slave was Eloque. The group moved towards Roshal as Eloque takes a mainly observational role while still suffering at the hands of the [Slave Master]. Eventually though, they meet another [Slave Master] named Emir Riqre who had bigger plans for the group and was even more cruel and advanced as a slave owner than Igheriz. Eloque eventually finds her way down into a storage area of Riqre's and manages to knock over a jar. The jars there contained living creatures that did not fully submit to Riqre and upon their release were revealed as creatures with some form of [Horror Classes]. After releasing the creatures and destroying Riqre's manor, Eloque and Pisces briefly escape captivity before being captured once more by Igheriz.[3]

After multiple failed attempts at escaping, Eloque and the others are finally freed by the Death of Chains. With her and the group's unexpected and newfound freedom, the former slaves try to outrun Roshal and make it to safety. Pisces promises Eloque a safe place at the Wandering Inn, though some others choose to follow Merr after the group experiences discord over leadership. The group eventually splits, as Merr leaves, taking some people to be bandits and while the rest, including Eloque, follow Pisces to safety. After a tense meetup, the two groups do eventually reconvene being stronger than before due to Merr's Skills as a [Bandit Lady].[1]

Quotes[edit | edit source]

  • To Pisces:
    • “You can’t change him back. You will never, ever change him back. You can change his bones, his body. But the class you and Riqre give him will last forever.”
    • “When we first met, you told Igheriz you were better than he. A [Necromancer] better than a [Slaver]. I believed you. Right now? Look what Riqre has done to you.”
    • “Igheriz makes me look like something more appealing to him. Slowly. Painfully. You—you do it less visibly. Faster, kinder. You are better at it than him, yes, but I prefer Igheriz after all. Riqre will have you make us all into his puppets. I have had enough. Goodbye.”
    • “I will not live like this. Do you not see what he did to me? Look? He wanted to make me like him. I can’t even remove the thread. It’s in me.
    • “There’s nothing for me. What would I do, even if I was freed? Like this? I’m a monster. Where would I go?”
    • “You did your best. I think you were wrong. Better to end it than live like this. Is this place you know so beautiful?”
    • “It was so easy. Why was it so easy?”
  • (To herself) “Indigo! Indigo. Mm…no, that’s violet. Aha, indigo!
  • (To Pisces) “Not a bad person. You rescued me from Riqre. You and Azam helped us remain free. Tell me of something else, Pisces. Tell me…of your team. Tell me there’s good people, because I’ve met so few. I’ve spent my entire adult life a [Slave].”
  • (To Qshom & Bearig) “Qshom! Bearig! Did you hear that? The sound Pisces makes? With his nose? I love noses. They’re so weird! That is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!”
