Chronology[edit | edit source]
Gravesong Book One[edit | edit source]
Grishen travelled with an escort of twelve to Adreissel for a banquet hosted for princess Seraphel du Marquin of Calanfer. She enjoyed the traditional village songs, but disliked Cara's pop songs. Being in the minority, she couldn't protest hard against an encore.
When an undead army threatened Afiele and sieged the town, she discussed what to do with Lantal, Risel and Seraphel. When they learned that the Tomb of Afiele was opened and how serious the crisis was, she opposed evacuating the town to her lands or Ovela, reasoning that with this many people, they would just be overtaken and slaughtered. She advised to fortify and hold until help arrived. From Cara's story, she theorized that ser Dalius was the Tombwarden of Afiele, who had forgotten his purpose. She dismissed Cara, deciding not to bother executing her for her blunder.
Five days into the siege, Grishen heard Cara's [Song of Rejuvination] for Violetta. She immediatly had Cara sing for the defenders to restore their stamina. Afterwards, she told Cara about her ancestor Arteis Ladel's accomplishements, which snapped her out of her reluctance to be a hero.
The siege ended when a Zombie Giant was brought against them. Grishen ordered the walls to be evacuated ahead of it, and to prepare to fight in the streets to slow the undead so they could break through and flee north towards her lands. She sounded the retreat when Lantal's ambush of the undead failed. She personally fought the horde with a mace. While they fled, she and her retainers split from the majority of the people to draw the [Necromancer]'s attention away and protect the civilians. She retreated to her castle to make her stand.
Her castle was under siege for five days and nights. Their defeat seemd imminant, so Grishen chose to at least die bringing down the Zombie Giant or the [Necromancer]. She and her elites exited the castle and stood in the ashwheat field. They set it on fire when the undead came at them, then they assaulted the Zombie Giant. But it survived due to sudden rain. However, the rest of the Tomb's dead and their ghosts arrived to turn the tide. Grishen saw her ancestor Arteis Ladel fighting the undead. As the undead army fell, she pursued Feremont, and threw her mace to bring down his mount. A Draugr prevented her from following.
After the battle, she attended Lantal and Risel's funeral.[1]
