Calanfer, formally Eternal Lands of Calanfer, is a kingdom in Terandria ruled by House Marquin, one of the Hundred Families of Terandria.

Overview[edit | edit source]

The kingdom borders Kaliv. The two kingdoms together with Gaiil-Drome were, 28 years ago, part of an alliance against seven other nations, most prominent among those the powerful Ailendamus.[1] This alliance is known as the Saiver Pact[2] or, more commonly, the Dawn Concordat and stands to this day.

Background[edit | edit source]

The country claims to have its roots roughly 6,000 years in the past, right after the end of the Creler Wars, which means they are a very young nation by Terandrian standards[3] that needs to boast their claims with attributes like eternal.[4] It founded by Marquin, a heroine of the Creler Wars, who was gifted one of the sixteen Dragonthrones, the Dragonthrone of Illuminations, for her deeds by the Dragonlord of War, Mauri[5], and built a country around it.[6] When it was founded, the lands used to be ruined by the Crelers. The Dragonthrone would become the capital of the new nation.

Calanfer had two colonies in recent memories on other continents; one was on Izril that was destroyed due to the ascendancy of Archmage Zelkyr, and the other on Chandrar that was destroyed during Flos's time of conquering the continent.[7]

The previous queen before King Reclis had spent her whole life opposing Ailendamus, which was a third smaller compared to now, but they proved too strong to be obstructed.[8] Calanfer itself was not in a good position, described as at the mercy of foreign powers. Reclis, third in line for the throne, would force his parents to abdicate and claim the throne with the help of his wife Ielane. The two began restoring Calanfer's political power.[7]

The kingdom of Calanfer does not lack for [Princesses] and [Princes], but is not notably powerful militarily or economically. Their main capital are their royal heirs who can make political marriages and thus safeguard the kingdom through diplomacy.[9]

Due to the Terandrian policy of ichorial lineage where pureblood nobility carries enormous political weight, Calanfer can be suspected to be rather influential despite not being powerful.[10]

Military[edit | edit source]

As previously mentioned, Calanfer does not have a powerful military, being more adept at diplomacy and politics. It can levy twenty thousand [Soldiers] and [Militia].[11] Their knight order, the Thronebearers of Calanfer, are better at courtly affairs and bodyguard duty than they are at combat on a battlefield. That said, they have achieved surprising victories in the past, like holding off four armies at Krawlnmak’s Pass.

Calanfer's champion, the Lightherald, is considered as strong as a Named rank adventurer thanks to the Relics he wields.

Calanfer has a great spy network.[7] Their ciphers are considered difficult to crack by Niers.[12]

Navy[edit | edit source]

Calanfer has some coastline and has a navy, though its strength is most likely limited.
